I love that all the NY media have embraced Jorts’ nickname. All of them are calling him Jorts!! A funny, loveable nickname this early in his NBA career is the best sign for his successs in the Big Apple. One article said, “One thing’s for certain, he will work his Jorts off for a spot on the Knicks roster next year.” I’m paraphrasing, but work his Jorts off was definitely in there. That’s awesome!!

Okay- I was way off. Here’s the actual quote from the NY Magazine article:

“As for the other guy? Josh Harrellson is by no means the next great big man, but there’s reason to believe he’ll stick with the Knicks. He might even get minutes. Jorts instantly becomes the biggest guy on the Knick roster, and the word on him is that he hustles his jorts off and fights for defensive position and rebounds.”

  14. The Tax Guy
    10:15 am June 27, 2011 Permalink

The 2011 Federal Income Tax Rate for married filing jointly taxpayers with taxable income over $379,150 is calculated as so:

    Your tax is:
    $102,574 + 35% of the excess over $379,150

So when Coach Cal goes undefeated and wins the SHIP next year he will owe approximately $1,597,372 in Federal Tax. Add in 6% or $279,000 roughly for the state of KY and you have a total tax bill of approximately $1,876,372. So his after tax benefit is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,773,628. And you know he’ll donate close to if not more than $1 Million to various charities. In other words coach Cal is a very wealthy man no doubt, but don’t think he sleeps on bags of gold over there on Richmond road…

The salaries are what they are. But, does the University of Kentcuky really use the constant advertising they get due to Cal’s and the team’s success to grow the academic reputation of the school? What are the great academic programs at UK and how can the school use its media exposure to get that news out, and then attract more excellent people to the university? It does not have to be a choice between basketball or academics.

  88. yep
    11:03 am June 27, 2011 Permalink

Of course Cal is worth it, how many coaches have came into a program that lost in the first round of the NIT the year before and went undefeated at home in his first 2 seasons? Winning puts fans in the seats and those fans are happy when they leave the arena where they then pour money back into the local economy. You have to spend money to make money, UK spending money on keeping a great coach here makes money for not just UK but alot of people/businesses in the area.

Clay Travis (UT/Vandy shill talk radio) has always been one of the biggest finger pointers, accusing UK of selling their souls for hiring Calipari. He called UK fans the most delusional fan base in the nation for expecting greatness and thinking UK could win with freshman, right before Pearl had to resign for cheating and lying to the NCAA, and right before UK went to the Final Four. There could be no sweeter form of justice.

Demarcs Cousins will give Jimmer the Donte Green treatment if he starts jacking it up from 35 ft. too much.
