We’ll make room on the page today for a little attaboy directed towards a former Kentucky baseball standout, as Lexington native and UK All-American Collin Cowgill has reportedly been called up to the Arizona Diamondbacks from Triple-A, according to this tweet from UK Baseball SID Brent Ingram. Cowgill was the top vote-getter in Triple-A All Star balloting this year, hitting .354 with 13 homers and 70 RBI in 98 games for Arizona’s Reno affiliate.
Cowgill hit .361 with 19 homeruns and 60 RBI as a senior at Kentucky, earning him First Team All-American honors in 2008. He was then selected by the Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the MLB draft. He’s moving on to play with the big boys now, ensuring that Kentucky fans everywhere will now check one line from the D-Backs’ box score every day before returning to ignoring them altogether. We wish him well as he makes the jump to the majors, and only hope he’s ready for life in The Show.
