Cobbins, Sweat, Rancifer, Harris and Wright leaving the team

bookie-cobbins
Say it ain’t so, Bookie

According to the Courier-Journal’s Kyle Tucker, five four student-athletes will leave the UK football program this summer. The school has not confirmed their departures, but sources tell Tucker that Bookie Cobbins, Demarcus Sweat, Josh Harris, Demarius Rancifer and Sterling Wright are leaving.

Rancifer, a Florida product, was the No. 44 linebacker out of high school. His former high school coach told Rivals.com that the staff advised him to transfer because it’s unlikely he’ll see the field next season.

Bookie Cobbins and Demarcus Sweat — maybe my two favorite players on the team from a year ago — leave Kentucky with four scholarship wide receivers from the spring. Javess Blue and the incoming freshmen will have to be quick learners once fall camp gets underway.

Sweat’s transfer is an academic issue, per Tucker.

Stoops means business.

UPDATE:

Kyle Tucker is saying Josh Harris isn’t leaving. Facts are optional at The Courier-Journal, too.

Rancifer, Cobbins and Sweat are all pretty big recruits when they got here. They will be missed.

Might need Whitlow to play at receiver instead of QB. Seems like he could.

Sweat coulda had a huge year in the Air Raid offense. Too bad he couldn’t handle getting C’s in 4 classes a semester. Good luck to him, but hope he doesn’t look back on a missed opportunity with a ton of regret.

5- Sweat had academc issues during jokers tenure as well so this is not new. Bookie well who knows what’s going on with him. Makes more room to add real competition for next years class. There maybe some last min additions to the 2013 class in lieu of this.

Some guys with real potential who just can’t get their acts together, either on the field or in the classroom. Sad. For their sakes, I hope they all figure it out wherever they end up.

This has to be a setback. I’m sure Stoops had to see it coming. What’s Plan B? Who’s going to fill the gaps. Did Stoops encourage Lucas Witt to change sports?

I don’t knwo why, but I have a feeling that Stoops and Brown know what they’re doing. Maybe because they get paid to make these decisions and have been very succesfull in their pasts. I think we’ll be ok. Anyone remember Ryan Timmons and Javess Blue?

17 I agree they know what they’re doing, and yes we have some good receivers, but if someone gets injured we don’t have a lot of back-up. Oh well, it is what it is.

What the hell is the matter with you people???

Outside of Sweat’s 4 receptions… none of these guys saw any significant playing time on last year’s god awful team.

What precisely makes you think they would see any on a better team this year?

We are going to be short at receiver, but we still have timmons and badet coming in. Looks like some freshmen or preferred walkons are going to have to step up. I think our starters will be good, its just in this offense you want to have a ton of recievers to sub in with the fast pace and running a lot of plays.

This means we can oversign our class by 4 next year right? As long as they enroll in January it will count towards the 2013 class correct?

UK is deep at RB and TE. I look for this team to run the ball more often than expected for a typical air raid offense. I like the potential of Collins and Robinson as big play threats. They will need to develop a sure handed, short play, red zone guy to go over the middle maybe that can be found at the TE position or in a newcomer.

We have Javess Blue, Ryan Timmons, Alex Montgomery, and Jeff Badet all coming in so we will be almost three deep at every receiver position. I’m sure the wide reliever position will be fine.

Let’s be honest, Stoops made these guys leave for one reason or the other.

We all know Bookie was a walking marijuna plant, and the other guys had issues to. This reminds me a lot of what Steve Spurrier did when he first got to South Carolina. Got rid of A LOT of players.

Probably a good thing. Bookie is amazing, but he also does things like tweet about betting on the national championship game. I was always kind of scared that he was going to bring some infractions on an already abysmal football program. Stoops obviously wasn’t having it.

2 – Yeah, but Pitino eats his own and runs players that he recruited off the team…Stoops cleaning up Joker’s recruiting or lack thereof, BIG ASS difference!

By using that picture, I think the KSR staff is trying to let us know something that they know about Bookie without directly saying, and several comments here are right on the nose. Joker was a “player’s coach” and was not great, among other things, with discipline. Tom Crean faced a similar situation upon his arrival at IU. Fortunately, none of these guys were good enough to play on a 2-10 team, so Stoops is also dropping some bruised fruit, similar to Coach Cal nudging out Kevin Galloway, AJ Stewart, Jared Carter, Matt “Beast” Pilgrim, and Donald Williams. In Stoops We Trust.
