University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible. profiles Dakari Johnson

The folks over at posted their latest installment in the 2013 player profiles, and it’s Dakari Johnson’s turn in the spotlight. The raw but talented center said that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, his former teammate at St. Patrick’s High School in New Jersey, reached out to him before he made his college decision to give him a heads-up on what life would be like in Lexington:

“Before I came here, he told me how hard I was going to have to work and there are so many challenges I have to face and overcome. Just telling me that if I choose to come here, it’s going to be the hardest I’ve ever worked. This is a guy I grew up looking at like he’s the hardest worker (I’ve ever seen), and he’s telling me that even he had a tough time. I’m like, this is amazing.”

One of the best things about Dakari is his potential. He’s not as polished as some of the other freshman, but, like MKG, has the work ethic it takes to make it as a Cat:

“I just embrace it. I’m trying to become a better player. I know I have a ways to go in my development of my game. Just coming here, just knowing that I’m not going to be given anything easy, that I’m going to be pushed each and every single day, that’s something I’m looking forward to.

What can you expect from Dakari this season? He prides himself on being a true center, and in turn, embraces the opportunity to knock around in the paint:

“I like it. I like rebounding. I like banging down low. That’s what I do best, so why would I try to go away from it? I use it to my advantage.”

Plenty more where that came from, including some great quotes from Dakari about his mother, the time he lived in Lexington during middle school, and a video interview, which you can view by clicking the pic below:

    Define raw…

His low post defense and offense are pretty solid already and he’s a beast in the paint

Just not sure how “raw” was intended, not ragging on you. He’s pretty solid in a lot of the true center aspects of the game.

I love this kid…….he almost seems too nice to be an SEC center…….but you do not get the #1 center in the nation tag by being weak…….he’s got game.

the best part of this video wasn’t commented on in the post. Dakari said he had to graduate college because that’s what his family does. does he stay 3 years and graduate like PPatt?
