The collision between Ramon Harris and Michael Porter was a legitimately scary moment in what otherwise was a great Kentucky performance. Ramon was in serious pain and tears went down his face as he lay on the court. His mother came and joined him on the court and prayed aloud as he was put on the stretcher and taken to the ambulance. The look of concern on the UK players’ faces were obvious and it was a difficult moment in Rupp.
Gillispie addressed this moment in the postgame press conference. As tears began to well up, he said,
“Those are my kids out there. You feel helpless when you can’t help them.”
There are some things about Gillispie’s coaching style that can lead to questions. He is unquestionably as hard on his players as any coach I have been around. But at the end of the day, the obvious emotion Gillispie showed last night and his care for those that give their all for him, illustrate why he can be so successful.
Our prayers are still with the Razor and all early signs are positive….
