Clint Hurtt receives NCAA Notice of Allegations

Our old friend Pat Forde reports that Louisville assistant coach Clint Hurtt and the University of Louisville have received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA regarding the University of Miami investigation. Hurtt, who worked on the Miami staff for several years, is likely to face charges for unethical conduct and involvement in rogue booster Nevin Shapiro’s recruiting violations.

Tick tock, tick tock…

Don’t think this has any effect on UofL directly. The only issue for them is if Hurtt, in a separate investigation, is found to have committed violations while at UofL. Believe this is all related to Miami booster Shapiro and he has no connection to UofL. Also don’t think Bridgewater will be involved. If UofL subsequently gets a “show cause” notice from NCAA, then they will likely cut loose Hurtt. But I wouldn’t count on UofL firing him simply because of the notice of allegations at the U. Regardless, doubtful UofL will directly suffer at all unless you consider canning the main South Florida recruiter as a penalty, and like I said, that may not even occur.

When you lose your main recruiter, it’s mostly defiantly going to effect UL because Strong didn’t recruit your kids. Besides, this is far from over.

I’m not sure that is how it works. If hurtt receives a show cause I always thought that meant the school he is currently working for has 2 options: let him go or face the penalties that will be sanctioned by the show cause. The show cause is imposed on the coach, not the school so if louisville keeps him, they agree to accept the penalties.

Red Man, you are wrong. Yes he did this at Miami. But, IF the NCAA officially gives Hurtt a “show cause” penalty, UL will have to (1)fire him, (2)accept whatever penalties are levied against him (which do transfer to whatever school a coach is currently working), or (3)petition the NCAA to allow him to stay at UL without penalty. Hence the name, “show cause”.

CJ is also clearly afraid of Jurich and UL and will report nothing until Jurich writes the article for them and says it is OK to print. Remember how the CJ wouldn’t report anything about the RP/Sypher mess until they were forced to by the national press. They also “doctored” pictures of Sypher and her family leaving out negative statements written on posters regarding RP. They have no journalistic integrity regarding UL and their athletics.

  37. You guys..

Wish that this had any effect on Louisville athletics. Unfortunately for you, Hurtt’s transgressions at Miami are precisely that. Teddy Bridgewater, per Shapiro’s story, accepted nothing, and committed to Louisville rather than Miami. Unfortunately for you, the football whoopins aren’t slated to stop simply because the D-Line coordinator is out the door.

FYI, an entirely different Louisville assistant received Recruiter of the Year this season. These kids aren’t buying Clint Hurtt, they’re buying Charlie Strong and Louisville.

ESPN, along with the Miami Herald, is reporting that Clint Hurtt “provided false or misleading information during the probe into the universities’ athletic programs…” While UL probably won’t see any direct penalties or issues from this; it almost certainly means that Hurtt will get a show-clause placed on him. At that point, as other’s have noted, UL will have to pretty much let him go. Same thing that happened to Bruce Pearl; you lie to the NCAA, you get the show-clause. His only chance of skating is if the NCAA pulls all of these NOA’s in lieu of the issues surrounding this investigation. And it doesn’t seem likely that they will, considering they dropped all this AFTER they canned the employee mainly responsible for the shoddy investigation. Which seems a bit ballsy by the NCAA. They knowingly admit things were done inappropriately in regards to this investigation. Can’s the responsible party, then the next day drops these Notices of Allegation. Actually makes me laugh.

  42. sammydog

Could effect UL if Hurtt brought any players with him from Miami to UL who were improperly recruited while at Miami. It most definitely will take some luster from UL football program from a perception standpoint. Strong and UL knew about Hurtt before he was hired but needed him to bring all those Miami players with him and were willing to suffer the consequences. You know the saying “Birds of a feather flock together”. If Charlie is the kind of standup guy we are led to believe why did he hire this man who consorts with criminals?

For clarification sake, according to CBS, Hurt has been “charged” with lying to the NCAA, among other things. This will pretty much end his career in college football, much like Bruce Pearl in basketball. Apparently Hurt said one thing, the other 2 assistants charged said something else, and the recruited players said even something else with respect to benefits Hurt personally paid to recruits (with Shapiro money I believe). I don’t think anything will happen to UL for this but, as far as I am concerned, every win they have with a Hurt recruit is tainted. Hopefully, this shuts up the idiot UL fans that keep running their mouths about Calipari and World Wide Wes with absolutely no basis in fact. What am I thinking, nothing can shut those idiots up.

UL is the middle child. Always looking for pity because people are paying attention to someone else. WKU is the baby of the family. The middle child is finally getting somewhere and no one cares because they can’t do anything but back into the spotlight just after the show is already over. They blew their BCS title game opps in a weaker than weak conference and with a pathetic SOS. So no one cared much when they won 5th or 7th place against the 3rd place SEC team or any other also ran. Pitino’s been there how long and Cal still beat him to a title. It’s hard being the middle child. 4realz. Relegated to conference toads for cryin out loud! … LOOK AT ME!!! We shouldn’t judge em too harshly

The amount of cognitive dissonance Teddy Bridgewater seems to give you people is rather funny.

  92. NCAA rules suck

Hope Bridgewater comes out of this OK, and Hurtt gets the book threw at him! The NCAA uses these kids like rented mules. I hate UL as much as anyone but I hate to see a 20 kid with a chance at a pro career get screwed while the so called adults come out smelling like a rose!
Let’s be honest most of these kids come from poor homes. So when somebody offers them thousands of dollars your damn skippy they are going to take it! How can anybody justify punishing these kid for cashing in on there ability when you see all the money the schools make from tee shirts and tv deals. What do the kids get, to use a nice locker room and get to stay in a nice dorm.

    73) So basically you are saying that Strong will leave before the sanctions hit. Wow, that sounds familiar.

We shouldn’t be so quick to judge. Everyone said Cal was a ticking time bomb too. Now we have another banner in Rupp….

My impersonation of a Tardinal fan:

We finally beat a good team that barely even showed up in a bowl game. Ignore the fact that our Bball team can’t handle a high ranking and must lose 3 in a row to feel better about itself, and instead focus on the fact that UK is struggling to make the NCAA tournament. Also, please ignore the fact that most of us tardinal fans weren’t even alive the last time loserville won the big dance. Also please ignore the fact that UK leads us in wins in both football and definitely basketball. Also please ignore the fact that UK has 9, yes 9 NCAA championship banners. Also please ignore the fact that they beat us in the tournament on the way to becoming the 2012 champions. Please instead focus on the fact that they are having a bad year like all good teams do. Also, don’t pay attention to UK having yet another top recruiting class coming in for next year’s Bball season. Please also disregard the fact that they have a first year football coach who absolutely smoked our asses on the recruiting trail, even though we hired cheaters who are currently being investigated by the NCAA. We suck so bad we can’t even beat you when we cheat. So please ignore all that and focus on the one year Kentucky has a down season in basketball, yet even with their best player injured still wins the Vandy game that we predicted they would lose. Now I must go trim my linebeard so I will look good later tonight slinging dope down on the corner.
