Cincy Hopes UK Will Play Them this Season

As Kentucky’s schedule becomes topic #1 for everyone in America, it is important to remember that it will include a true road game next season against a Big East opponent. There has been a great deal of speculation on the Kentucky end that the opponent could be Cincinnati. And today, Mick Cronin agreed with the speculation, saying that he was hearing it was a possibility. Cronin noted however that ESPN makes the matchups and said that all things being equal, it was a one in six chance that would be the matchup. I would give better odds than that. UC is one of three teams being considered by ESPN for the game and it makes sense for that to be the trip.

Would you like to play UC at their home court? Well whether you would or would not, you may get the opportunity for the game that would make Bearcats fans as excited as any other on their schedule.

We need to get Hunter McClintock to transfer. Kid reminds me of a white Allen Iverson who tries in practice. http://youtu.be/xLuMoxhKDdc Let’s get him in before we worry about the schedule. Someone start tweeting him some BBN love.

I’d like us to play a home and home with Duke……Cats in Cameron, kicking their ACC ass in front of a national TV audience…..with all those gooney bucktoothed Duke undergrads hopping around, waiving to their familes in Bombay and Mt. Kisco……..Archie going off for 28, with 5 threes……Nerlens with 7 blocks………

Would have loved to beat them by 15-20 this past season. I just hope we’re clicking well enough in December to pull a W @ UC. I know we’ll be better than them, but they’ll be hungry – call them IU-Lite. Maybe even U of L-Lite, if that’s possible.

Well how good will Cincinnati be. We must get a grip on the fact that UK will be young and we have earned the right to be a non-traditional program – meaning we need to protect our little guys coming into the program. Cincy may be a bit too big and nasty for us. You fans need to trust me. I’ve lined up a schedule against Berea College and the WKU women (See – totally non-traditional) but they will not road games – too many hostile fans at Berea and Diddle. We’re gonna line those games up in at a neutral court. You guys need to trust the mighty and powerful Cal….suckers!

Let’s play Florida State, Oregon, UNLV, Gonzaga, and whoever plays the fastest game in the country.

Now that Andersen is at Arkansas we should get the speed play. But let’s not hide our team just so we can have a 3 loss or less season.

I’d much rather lose 2 – 6 games and play a challenging schedule.

We’ve got the talent. Does Cal have the balls?

#12 – Mitch don’t pull the strings. Cal runs the show in Kentucky. It’s a non-traditional program and Kentucky fans will gladly sign over their first born if that’s his demands. He says jump – they say how hi.

It doesn’t matter what the fans want, what the athletic director wants – Cal’s running this program to help promote his newest batch of 17-year-old high school studs. He’s promised them a chance to showcase their talents for the NBA – and it’s got to be easy. None of these kids wants to be embarassed on national TV with a big loss to Indiana at home. So scratch that game.

Indiana ended the series not uk…the big east game is part of a challenge that UK has to play in the Big East-SEC challenge. Every UK fan should know these facts. I would love to play UC in the Shoe..four guard offense with no big man in the middle. UC will shoot 25-30 threes in this game. Cats have to make them put it on the floor and drive, Alex P will have monster game against UC, they have no one to guard him.

  20. VinDatUK
    10:29 pm May 8, 2012 Permalink

For all of you asking why would we play UC: it’s not our choice! We play a road game in the Big East/SEC challenge this year. The way that the schedules line up i.e. who needs to play a road game and who gets a home game means UK has to go on the road and UC is due a home game. ESPN will decide – not Cal. And old_school…what’s the weather like in Bloomington this time of year?

    27. – Imagine this scenario: Kentucky re-emerges after several years of being down and hosts No. 1 Indiana in December – winning on a last second shot that propels them back to the national scene. While Indiana goes on to win the title – Kentucky is poised for next season with most starters returning and a stellar recruiting class coming in. Projections have them rated preseason number one.
Meanwhile – Indiana has lost everyone, and will field almost exclusively freshmen starting five next year. They are set to host the Wildcats this year – and the Cats would love to hand a little revenge to the Hoosiers for the post-season loss. Only problem is – Hoosiers bow out of the contest – claiming they don’t want to travel to Rupp – only want to play neutral games.
To top it all – Coach Crean says his recent success elevates the Hoosiers to “non-traditional” status- meaning they have the right to set and play by their own rules – which means watering down the schedule since he’ll be fielding a team of mostly 18-year-olds next December.

I’m pretty confident such actions by Crean would not be met will much favor in Kentucky. I think we’d throw out words like Jerk, Coward and probably more than a few not fit for print.

But – silly UK fans are defending Cal for doing the exact same thing.

#30 – is that dissent I detect. Thou shalt not argue with the great and marvelous Cal. We are now non-traditional. We are above the fray. I am special – therefore my team is special. We must schedule only games in which we are the better team. Thus sayeth the Cal!

Now off wit you…or you’ll face the wrath of BBN.

  34. old_school

The integrity issue I bring up applies to Cal’s insistence that somehow UK has earned the right to set a schedule against teams only if he feels like he can win. Read his manifesto from yesterday – he’s basically admitting that some off-years will require a much lighter schedule. That’s cowardly.

  35. 28...tsk tsk tsk
    11:09 pm May 8, 2012 Permalink

Listen up 28, there are some holes in your logic. First, IU would never actually win a championship. Bob Knight is not walking through that door…and even if he is, that door is not attached to a time machine.

Who says UK is watering down the schedule? It isn’t finalized yet. You’re trying to tell us that scheduling Duke, Maryland, and U of L (at the very minimum) OOC is “watering” it down? Do you realize we’re also getting Mizzou in conference this season? Do you also realize we will have to travel to face a Big East opponent this year? Yes, they will be overrated just like every Big East team, but it will be a true road game. We won’t have the toughest schedule, but it doesn’t mean it won’t prepare us for March/April.

Your logic of “watering” it down because of a team with mostly 18-year olds…did we water it down in 2011-12 with a team run by Freshmen and Sophomores? Get a grip. We’ll eventually do something that warrants your negativity, but we’re on top of the world right now.

34 – If we’re being cowards, then it will show in March when we’re vastly overrated and get beaten early in the tournament. You can argue that the 09-10 was overrated because we didn’t make the Final Four, but the Elite Eight isn’t too shabby. Other than that, what makes you think Calipari will do this at UK? It sure isn’t the past two seasons.

The fact is that we didn’t win #7 in 1997 with Rick and Rick’s Players. We won it all in 1998 with Tubby and Rick’s players. Hardly an “I told you so” moment. That ’98 team was the least NBA talented of any of the modern UK champs, and the win over Duke still the top win in UK’s history (Duke was the most NBA laden team of all time up to that point). It was Tubby’s win and his team and the sweetest championship because it was so unexpected. Last year’s team would have topped that. Time to put that stuff to rest. Cal and Pitino’s records at UK just edge Tubby by the FFs over his EEs, honor him and cut the garbage. The vitriol about him resulted in the Gillispie hire, the anti-Tubby, that should have shut it up.

The best matchup in the SEC/BE invite would be UK at Cuse or visa versa. The problem is both teams are slated for road games this season. Next it comes down to whether ESPN would rather have a UK at Georgetown, UK at Notre Dame, UK at Pitt, or UK at Cinci game as those teams are slated for home games.

On a side note Marquette also is slated for a road game.
