Cinco de Starters-o: Arkansas Razorbacks

This one time, like 2 months ago, Arkansas was awesome. So awesome, in fact, that I made a Facebook status expressing their awesomeness. Now, they suck, so I had to change my status. What the hell happened?

Life. That’s what. Or conference play. Some people think it’s conference play. Whatever it was, it has bludgeoned the Hogs, and now they welcome Kentucky to Fayetteville losers of 8 out of their last 9. Most recently, they blew an 8 point halftime lead against Auburn.

Saturday’s game will again be a big’n for the Cats, who will likely/maybe/probably be without the services of Patrick Patterson. Similarly, Arkansas PG Courtney Fortson has been suspended indefinitely, so he will also be in street clothes. I guess it’s a wash. Or, as my dad says, warsh.

The Pigs:

#0 Michael Washington, 6’9”, F/C, Junior

2008-09 Stats: 16.5 ppg, 9.7 rpg

Washington, apparently, is a practicing attorney in addition to Arkansas’ center. As you can see by his numbers, he’s been mighty productive this season, though he only scored 6 points against Auburn this week. If Patterson doesn’t play, or if he does, really, Washington will be the number one option for the Hogs in Fortson’s absence.

#31 Michael Sanchez, 6’8”, F, Freshman

2008-09 Stats: 6.1 ppg, 5 rpg

Sanchez has had the predictable freshman up-and-down season, with few bright spots. He scored 12 in the win over Oklahoma, but he’s also been held scoreless twice this year. If you sense familiarity in Michael’s name, it’s because you’re a disgusting pervert and you’re thinking of “Dirty Sanchez.” Or because we recruited him.

#12 Marcus Britt, 6’2”, G, Sophomore

2008-09 Stats: 3.5 ppg, 1.7 rpg

I’m guessing this gentleman will start in place of Fortson, for no other reason than he played the most minutes off the bench last game and he’s a guard. He’s a threat to shoot, but he’s only scored in double figures once this season. He initially signed with LA Tech, but then left once he realized they suck and Karl Malone played there.

#14 Stefan Welsh, 6’3”, G, Junior

2008-09 Stats: 12.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg

Welsh has been wildly inconsistent this season, running through scoring droughts that sometimes last 3 or 4 games. He’s not in one now, however, as he’s scored 14 in his last two games. He’ll have to really pick up the slack in the Hogs’ depleted backcourt, along with…

#15 Rotnei Clarke, 6’0”, G, Freshman

2008-09 Stats: 11 ppg, 1.9 rpg

Clarke has shot the ball well in his first year, and if given looks, he’ll hit the shot. Look, there’s no way to veil this: he’s one-dimensional. Please, for the sake of my dog’s safety, cover him. No clean looks for this guy, and he won’t score more than 6.

Game’s at 1 p.m. on CBS, and it is streamed free at Sportsline.
