Chris Walker Has Decided On Florida

Good morning folks. Did you set your alarm for 7:55 a.m. like I did? Scout’s #7 overall 2013 prospect Chris Walker let the world know that he would make his college decision this morning. Although he expressed a great deal of interest in Kentucky, pining for a scholarship offer– in the end that offer never came. Walker announced this morning that he will play for the Florida Gators next season. He says “I will be teaming up with Kasey Hill and together we will be winning a national championship.” Already talking national championship, eh? Now I’m going back to bed, and so should you. And the 3 Florida basketball fans who woke up for that announcement.

If you come back to KSR at 9 a.m. though, Tyler Thompson has a little treat that will be waiting for you. It’s not a 5-star commitment, but it’s pretty good…

He picked Florida. Said he and Kasey Hill will be best duo in all of basketball. Then he guarantees a national championship. HAHAHAHA. Heres a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5YJGMfzJtc&feature=youtu.be

Best of luck to him. He’s a great athlete. We’ll probably never know for sure why UK didn’t offer but I’m guessing Coach Cal must feel REALLY good about Julius Randle?

Getting randle means no harrison twins. Randle hates those guys with a passion.

Certainly having his friend Kasey Hill at Florida doesn’t hurt and from what I read Billy D. didn’t miss a single game of his in July so they were obviously putting the full court press on him. I can’t imagine it was a terribly hard sell, though…

…”Kentucky doesn’t want you. They don’t think you’re good enough, but we know better!”
…”If you come here you get to play with Kasey Hill *and* you’ll get the chance to show UK what a mistake they made by not offering you a scholarship!”
    …”Sunshine + hot college girls!”

There’s always at least one top guy every year that talks about UK nonstop but is clearly not THE priority for Cal and so they sulk and then go somewhere else (sometimes even a rival). Quincy Miller and Tony Wroten come to mind, as well as that one top 10 guy Cal’s first year here (top 10 player no one would touch – can’t remember his name). I believe Cal refers to them as takers instead of givers.

    4) May be true, but it’s pretty clear that Cal is recruiting the twins hard, as hard as Wiggins and Randle and anyone else. If Randle’s not aware of it, he hasn’t looked online at all.

    5) Yup, he can join the “making wild boasts at an SEC school and only prayer of beating UK is that they have to start a new team every year” club with Stokes.

    9) Yeah, this class is looking as good for them as the one that had the early commit from Austin Rivers. He was great at Florida next to Beal.

Mr. Walker, good luck winning the SEC east let alone the NCAA Championship. If you and Mr. Hill stay four years then you just might have a chance. We all know that isn’t going to happen. I just think it’s hilarious that all these coaches are now going for the one and dones.
Cal has changed the whole landscape of College Basketball.

A lot of guys just want an offer from UK so they can say they have one, even if they are already decided on going to another school. I trust Cals judgement. We will be fine in 2013.

I don’t know why Coach Calipari never offered Walker. I could speculate on it, but I don’t know and I doubt if anyone else (other than perhaps our assistant coaches) does either. I do know that Coach Cal has a good track record in recruiting, and I trust his decisions. As for the number one class in 2013, Florida does have the early lead for that. But in the end, I think Kentucky will be okay.

  22. Will Totten
    8:50 am July 22, 2012 Permalink

Ultimately, every recruit that Cal has gotten has turned out to perform better than the ones he “passed on” or missed out on. Maybe it’s because they’re at Kentucky and not somewhere else but see C.J Leslie, Lance Stephenson, etc. UK’s in great position to possibly land 4 of the Top 5 players in the country in 2013.

  23. tdogg40330

This kid clearly has his priorities wrong. “Shout out to adidas!” Three stripes in his hair. Oops, he clearly forgot Florida wears Nike and loosely threw that in at the end. In my opinion Cal did not offer as this kid is a take and not a giver.

  28. Eight Letters

No surprise at all here…and no disappointment either. If he was the kind of player Cal wanted at Kentucky, then he would have had the offer. Just because he is good, does not make him a good fit. My guess he did not show a willingness to be a team first kind of player….a “brothers keeper”.

No worries here, I think if you give Cal a point guard, a post and three nuns from the Sisters of Mercy….he could win a National Championship.

  29. James Young
    9:49 am July 22, 2012 Permalink

^ So you’re saying that I have to play on the wing with a coupla nuns? If I made an assist to the nun, could I shout, “NUN SCORES, NUN SCORES!”

That would be enough for my commitment right here and now. Just keep ’em outta the locker rooms, please.

  31. Han
    9:54 am July 22, 2012 Permalink

    19) Yup. The year after their first or second title win (forget which), they could not sell out their midnight madness.

    22) Only exception that immediately comes to mind is that Cal took Darnell Dodson and didn’t land Xavier Henry (also Meeks went ahead and went pro). Maybe Henry wouldn’t have fit with our guys, and maybe Cal really didn’t want him to come once he came to UK, but Henry clearly was a more valuable player than Dodson.

  33. gatorchomp

UK owns us so they must be paying players. It’s the only explanation that makes sense. Otherwise the reason would be because Cal is a better coach than Billy, and we just refuse to accept that. Yeah so the reason Walker chose us is because he doesn’t want to get paid to play. Yeah, that’s why. Chomp chomp.

Gatorchomp. Bless your heart you dont need our approval dont worry Walker is a very talented basketball player the only reason we didnt offer him was attitude. We prefer players who go out and sacrifice for national titles not guarantee them at a press conference. He will be fine at UF they do pretty good with me first players. You know the ones that in elite 8 games jack up 3s insteat of going inside to their best option to win

I’m not buying the ‘attitude problem’ argument with Walker. Cal did wonders with Demarcus Cousins and other egos in years past.

Chris Walker is massively talented, and by all accounts, wanted to come to UK. We’ve seen this story before, however….whenever a kid lobbys real hard for UK scholarship offer, Cal seems to be turned off. kids that are humble and let their work on the court be their voice, seem to get the most attention from the UK staff.

Shame, cuz Walker is a super player.

Ok for one Randle is fine playing with the Twins that was a rumor started up by opposing coaches trying to get the those players to hate each other. Randle said last week that if he and the Twins, and James Young were to come to UK it would be the greatest class ever, which might be true. Second Those will the only two commits in the top 35 that Florida will get so they are basically done for now, UK already has 3 of the top 8 players lockdown in Young and the Twins so there are no worries their. Third Walker had problems on the court that made Cal not want him, if you watched him play you would know what I mean. Whenever he wouldn’t get the ball or something didn’t go the way he wanted he would pout and then hardly play any, his character issues weren’t just on the court they were off to, and this is a lot different then the Cousins ordeal.

This kid is a real talent and will be an excellent player at UF. I don’t think the reason he didn’t get an offer has much to do with his attitude. Its where the attitude manifests itself. Cal loves attitude ON THE COURT. Attitude on twitter and in the press? That’s a no no. No whining publicly.

Well it looks like the Gayturds have their one(1) interior player for the next three years. Now all they need to do is get a dwarf to sling threes and a 6-10 stiff to play “power” forward. After that the game plan is to pick up 13 shooting guards to fill out the roster. Donovan’s usual plan is falling into place.
