Chester is fired up about Kentucky football

Chester — one of our favorite radio show callers and Craig McIntosh’s biggest fan — called in to this morning’s show and he was fired up about Kentucky football. He thinks UK can still turn things around and he’s ashamed of those fans who have completely given up and called for Joker’s job.

Listen as Chester says the Cats can still win five more games and he’ll be rooting them on this Saturday, even if he’s the only fan in the stadium.

I think Chester is stoned, but if Smith plays and our running backs gain ground like they did in the first half last week, we could give USC a game. We won’t win, though.

Chester is insane. Yes Chester, if we go to a bowl game I will quit my job. Then I’ll fly to the moon and have lunch. It’s idiots like Chester that have accepted mediocrity here at UK for 50 years. Ya we have some talent, but that only means that Joker and staff are even worse than we know.
If by some miracle the stadium was sold out every game the rest of the season, then you can bet Joker will be back. Doesn’t matter if we go 1-11. Conversely if our stadium was empty and we went 7-5, Joker would be gone. The only thing UK Brass cares about, and rightfully so, is MONEY. Stop supporting this train wreck of a team and let them know we will not stand for this.

Heard Chester on the show this morning, appreciate the true fan coming out in him, but come on…”give him more time”? He was the recruiting coordinator for Brooks, and even now you can’t see the program’s regression?? On top of the piss-poor product on the field…the twitter ban (or lack thereof), Newton’s heads up on starting, delay of game on the first play of OT vs. WKU, suspension of Hartline for allegations that were dropped but slap on the wrist for players caught with illegal drugs, scoreless first quarters, need I go on to prove he is in over his head? Maybe next time MB will go with someone who has at least been a head coach for a day…

Our leader is doing a horrific job. His supporters say “He really cares, give him a chance, it’s only been a short time” So we can either accept mediocrity in hopes that things change even though it’s clear he can’t change it. Or we can make a change, demand better, and move on into a better future… Now ask yourself this, was I talking about Obama or Joker? Or is there a difference?

@ 7…supporters of Obama also say that he inherited a mess from Bush administration, and that he needs more time to fix their mistakes. Joker definitely can’t say that, as he took a program on the RISE from RB and has sadly flushed it down the toilet. What would Brooks do if a player literally disobeyed a team rule? How many players in the last couple of years can we look at and truthfully say…this player has gotten better under JP??

I agree with all that #9, especially the fact that I know Joker banned Twitter and EVERY player is tweeting. But some will also tell you that Brooks saw the downward trend coming. That he had a poor class coming in combined with a tough schedule and he got out just in time. I disagree with that of course, because I’ve seen flashes of real SEC talent on our team, Brooks got the best out of his guys, I don’t see that at all with Joker.

    Go Chester !

Gotta give Joker some time. Even though he was the recruiting coordinator under Brooks he had to use the Brooks coaching staff to do the recruiting ( not good recruiters ) Now he finally has his own staff and people want to get rid of him.

I’m 66 years old and have seen the revolving door on coaches all my life. Firing Joker would be a monumental mistake.

Chester is fun to listen to when he calls in, but if Chester really believes what he says, then this just goes to show the delusion & irrational thinking when it comes to UK football. The first step in fixing anything, is admitting there is a problem, and it’s kinda hard to do that when you’re totally lying to yourself.

Just trust in Mitch and until we get good lets all focus on the real sports at UK like Swimming, rowing, tennis, women’s soccer….you know the money makers.

    15) Exactly. Chester had me smiling until he said that McIntosh was the “closest one to scoring points for us” on Saturday and followed that one up by “South Carolina is overrated”. Yeah, don’t worry about Conner Shaw going 20/21 passing last Saturday or either of their 6’7″ all american defensive ends…oh, and some guy named Marcus Lattimore.

Ya JP I like ya buddy, but I don’t think firing the Head Coach of the worst team in the conference 2 years running is “monumental”. The only mistake was allowing the former Coach Brooks to choose his successor. What other SEC school hires a first time head coach to run their school? That’s embarrassing.

I’m the Obama of football. You want to like me because I’m a nice guy. You want me to succeed because success for me means success for something you love. But unfortunately, I am not capable of turning this around and making something good come from it. Whether it’s my fault we’re where we are, or whether you can blame someone else…it doesn’t change the fact that I can’t fix what’s wrong.

If you are a true UK fan you do not tolerate the fact that our football program is a laughing stock. Obviously, the UK administration doesn’t care that our football team can’t even beat WKU or they would of hired Mike Leach last year. The only thing you can do to help the football program is to stop supporting them. It is clear to me that you have to hurt UK’s pocket book to get their attention!!! If you are a UK fan you should want change because 2-10 is unnacceptable. If you want change you have to stop giving them your money!

I actually kinda like what ol’ Chet has to say. Granted we all have plenty of reason to complain about our season thus far. We DO have the talent on offense to win a handful of football games. Our offense has talent all across the board, even though we’re lacking experience in the wideouts. Our defense is very suspect and raw, but is athletic enough to get the stops they need and stick their noses in there to cause turnovers. If we can develop a solid running attack to take the pressure off of Smith, the O-Line, and the WR/TEs, then we can put up points with the best of them. I can complain about Joker with the best of them, but I think he is a heck of an offensive mind, the same goes for Randy Sanders, good enough for us to put up points and not have to rely on our defense. Closing comment- I do not think SC is overrated, they have talent across the board and always show up when it counts.

Kentucky football has talent and is still getting shut out by Florida ..what does that say about joker, Chester? Joker has no balls and doesn’t even attempt to get the team motivated from what I can see..joker is a piss poor coach and anyone that supports him doesn’t have very much knowledge about football..I support uk all the way and hope the best for these players but if we win 5 more games it sure as hell won’t be because of joker it will be because of the players..GET RID OF THE JOKER NOW..he is embarrassing our program and not just football it gives us a bad name all around

27, did you just say that Joker Phillips “is a heck of an offensive mind”? Maybe you meant “The Joker” from Batman. Because our Joker put the slowest player on our team at QB to run bootlegs and throw interceptions. In the second half his great mind decided, “We’re down 3 touchdowns, maybe we should run up the middle on every down”. If Joker has an offensive mind than Billy G has a clean healthy liver.

#4–IMO I think it’s more a train wreck of a coaching staff than it is a train wreck of a football team. Football has gotten so bad that I’ll either mute the TV when Joker is interviewed or I’ll switch channels. He’s been singing that same song for as long as I can remember and not a thing has changed.

I posted earlier on this but Chester is right and I felt bad for being as negative as I have been the last couple of weeks when I heard him this morning. We have plenty of reason to complain so far this season but complaining definitely won’t make things better and in turn could hurt us long term. I’m going to be as positive as I can be the rest of this season, hope for the best, and at the end of the season if Mitch replaces Joker, then so be it. Until then though, I’m supporting our homegrown coach and his team and I will pray that this team is better than what we’ve seen so far. There are signs of hope, the offense (with Smith) looks solid and our defense and running game was playing great in the first half against Florida, they just gave up in the second half (no excuse for that but that’s what happened). They are still young though but maybe they will rally around Joker if they care about him as much as they sound like they do and we can prove everybody wrong. I have followed recruiting closely the last few years and we have the young talent this year, we just have to do something with it. Go Cats and good luck to Joker on the rest of the season.

Are you people delirious? I am sick of hearing how Joker has talent at UK. How many 5 star players has Joker got the last 3 years? A big fat 0!!!!! We only average 1-2 4 star players a year. How do we have talent? 2 and 3 star players is not talent. Take a look at basketball people and use some common sense.

30- I guess what I was trying to say was that he is an offensive coordinator or WR coach, not a head coach. Granted we had the best talent Kentucky football has ever seen in 2006-2007 but look what our offenses did those two years.

Bottom Line. You’re either a fan or not. If you are, stick with these kids and quit talking about something that will not be decided until the end of the season. It only makes things worse for the kids that are out there busting their ass for the fans and others. I’m not on the Joker bandwagon, but I will be in the stands this week and the last home game even if we are 1-9 or whatever.

Chester spoke with a positive message about UK athletics. Whether or not it was realistic isn’t the point. It’s really depressing seeing some of the people on here who claim to be fans slamming Chester and calling him an idiot for showing his support. Those people, like Raazoul (#4), aren’t a part of the Big Blue Nation. I agree wholeheartedly with #46. He said if this season doesn’t work, then changes need to be made, but if our defense is beginning to show improvement, with a healthy Max, we are capable of winning some games. Being a part of BBN means being a fan even when it’s not easy.

#48 I’m sure glad you aren’t in charge of the BBN enrollment club. Because people like #4 are the true fans. He sees things they way they are and calls it like it is. He’s not living in a dream world like Chester and some of the rest of you.You are what your record says you are. Most of us don’t except mediocrity with a piece of cheese and a little wine. Uk football is capable of more Brooks had the program heading the right way , not were he wanted it but going in that direction. Papa Brooks is the man who started Oregon to where it is to day. He left the people in place to move the program. He did the same for Joker and joker fired the damn staff put in his yes men and now has to suffer the consequence. I admire you loyalty it’s just misplaced
