Cats win ugly over Morehead State, 81-70
Phew, that was nasty. In one of the more frustrating games we’ve seen from this bunch, the Cats finally pulled past Morehead State, 81-70.
Archie Goodwin led the way with 28 points, with Poythress close behind with 20. Noel almost had a double-double with 9 points, 11 rebounds, 6 blocks and 4 assists. The Cats finally achieved some sort of rhythm towards the end of the second half, shooting 51.1% from the field.
The name of the game was fouls. There were 44 fouls overall, with two Morehead State players fouling out. Morehead’s foul trouble ultimately cut their run short, as the Cats pulled ahead towards the middle of the second half. Like BTI’s options at last call, it wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it.

Not pretty but it will teach us to be physical. Kids are thinking about Thanksgiving and heads not fully in this game. Need to learn to play like this because this is what we will get from now on.
We better hope Harrow can come back and play like a PG is supposed to or it might be a long year. This was not a good team UK played tonight.

Sean Woods pushed the kid but it was pushing him away to avoid further conflict. It happens all the time with hot head player. I saw Cal do it to Cousins in a practice.
I’m still annoyed over the Sean Woods incident. He should not have embarrassed that poor kid like that, let alone shove him toward the bench. If he was frustrated with the kid, he should have dealt with it a tad more civil behind closed doors. It’s also frustrating that the camera crew refused to take the shot off of him. Not cool.
You all being too soft on that kid Woods told off. If he’s man enough to draw attention to himself by acting like an idiot then he should be man enough to take the embarrassment of having the camera on him.
I hope our Thanksgiving meal has as good of home cooking as the Cats got tonight. 36 fouls vs 16 fouls. 41 free throw attempts. It’s all because the Cats are more skilled and more athletic I’m sure. Wait, what? The Morehead bench had approximately 25 more points than UKs bench? Well at least the top 5 are more athletic. GIMME SOME HOME COOKIN’

This UK team is ultimately going nowhere. They can’t rebound. They can’t shoot free throws. They are not a good ball-handling team, hence suseceptibility to the press. They also really are a poor three point shooting team overall. And they are fairly slow, especially when Wiltjer is on the floor (He is fools gold…need the offense, but a total defensive liability). They are most certainly an 8-9 loss team and definitely not going to cut down the nets in March. Elite Eight at absolute best.
This was exactly the same approach little brother used last year. We learned a lot from that game. Hope we learn as much from this game.

Give me a break on the Sean Woods butt chewing coaches chew out kids all the time on all levels. How many times when Pitino was coaching did we say whoa Rick go easy on him. If Cal rips someone are we even talking about this?

It is a good thing the refs put us on the free throw line every other time down the court or we could have lost.
We were lucky to pull that one out….personally, I like Sean Wood’s coaching style, and he had a good shot at breaking the streak at Rupp.

21 – it’s a shame woods had to have his players be douches just like him and purposefully foul all the time. We should have shot at least 10-15 more free throws.
10, 12, 15 – there is no excuse for what woods did. He is an ass and too many people defended him after his comments. I guess the truth comes out eventually. Dude is pompous.

UK is going nowhere? Since when is the Elite 8 you suggested going nowhere? Are you really that spoiled already from the NC? This teams seems about the same as the Knight led Cats, and they made a great run to the Final 4. College basketball as a whole is down, as shown by IU’s struggles lately.
When you have 4 or 5 nba players and you are playing a bad team, you do not deserve to get bailed out by the refs and put on the line every 30 seconds.
Cats have to be more physical when needed. need point guard, better free throw shooting, stronger hands, and talk and play together.
@16 Cmon man its one game. They have not played against a team like that yet. Its the day before Thanksgiving. People were saying Sweet 16 at best for the 2011 team and they proved that wrong. They are what 4 or 5 games into the season without their starting PG. Give it a rest. You are going a little overboard over one meaningless game.
27 – you’re right. Refs should not call fouls against the team with lesser takent. That makes total sense. It’s aamazing you can turn on a computer and type with your analytical skills.
I hope I’m wrong, but I think this is the year we lose to uofl. I think they could put a beating on us. Not sure we can get away with only having six guys and no pg this year.

Great win for the Cats. Plenty for they guys to learn from. We all learned what a great coach Sean Woods is tonight, very proud his jersey hangs in Rupp. He exposed every weekness this team has, especially if Harrow walks away. Atkinson deserved what Sean gave him, discipline is the foundation of success. Sean Woods can coach my Kentucky Wildcats when the day comes.

I am glad this game went the way it did. It was an extremely physical game that made our young Cats dig deep and learn to play those teams that want to bully you around. And that is exactly the way I would describe Sean Woods and his team… Bullys. I don’t think fouling and on every rip is basketball. None-the-less… It proved to be a great lesson for our team and it has only made us stronger. How bout them Cats!?!?
Maybe we should start a pool betting on when Poythress gets his first assist. It may be March.
36 – You are crazy. Harrow will bounce back from these unfortunate events and lead our team to the promise land… #9! John Wall, Brandon Knight, and Marquis Teague all struggled in their first appearances as wildcats… Harrow will do the same. He even has the advantage of seeing this all play out over a year. It is unfortunate that he was ill and has had a family emergency… But he will be fine. It will take time… But he will lead us to 9… That’s the rhyme.
