Cats up to #33 in latest Rivals rankings

After three big commitments over the weekend, the Cats have moved from #52 to #33 in Rivals’ recruiting rankings, one spot behind Tennessee. Jeff Badet, JoJo Kemp, and Nick Haynes pledged their allegiance to the Blue and White in the past few days, and the staff expects a few more before Signing Day on Wednesday. As is, this would be Kentucky’s highest ranked recruiting class in history.

I’ll be back with all you need to know about Nick Haynes in a minute, but for now, enjoy the UK Football commercial that aired in Lexington during last night’s Super Bowl:

Which still puts them at 12th out of the 14 SEC schools. How are you going to compete in the SEC like that?

Things are so much better than they were. If you don’t like it, go to a U of L site with all of the other Trolls.

Whoopie – with solid recruiting, good player development, and good coaching. The first objective is being met. If they have continued recruiting classes like this year they can win in the SEC. They won’t win the conference championship but they will compete at a much higher level than they have in the past. That’s all anyone is asking for.

Things are better- and he has had limited time to recruit. I am more than happy with this ranking for a first time coach just hired a month or so ago. Having said that, I agree, to compete in the SEC, we have to be in the teens…

Gotta love the negative nancies out there. I’m sure they want Stoops fired because he hasn’t won a game yet.

This coming year will be another tough one. But we are going in the direction where the year after we can win games! and show up for the bama’s and LSU’s.

I like where we are at! Good job Mitch.

And I’m fine with the basketball team.
Down year. Love to support the kids this year! We’ll be back. Calm down.

Look at what Stoops has done in the short time he has been here! He has not even had a full year to put together a class! Anyone that is complaining about this class is flat out crazy…he is doing a hell of a job. But remember, this is not basketball, there may be some MARGINAL improvement next season but the real improvement will manifest itself in season 3.

Where would that rank us in the ACC, Whoopie?

We’re also tied for 31st in Average Player Rating. Considering we still have a pretty small class with only 20 signed (Tied for 54th in the country) that APR is pretty telling. By that number we are also ahead of Miss St and up to 3.0 from 2.8 last season which was ranked 51st. If we could somehow land Timmons are hatcher that would be a major boost and should put us in the top 25

Looks like that would put us #6 in the ACC.
UL’s best recruiting pitch is that they play in a soft conference (no matter what conference they play in…they move from conference to conference like rat from a sinking ship). The SEC is tough, but I would rather play the best then brag to recruits about how easy it is to get to a bowl game.

This is almost as impressive as Cal coming in at the last minute his first year and hauling in all those players at the last minute. If he can recruit this well with basically most of the top talent already committed,I have a good feeling about the class of 2014.

Of the guys left that are Well Know that Stoops is pursuing, here is how they break down POINTS wise:

    Jason Hatcher (5.8)- worth 105pts
    Tevin Lawson (5.8) — worth 105pts
    Ryan Timmons (5.7) — worth 90pts
    Corey Smith (5.7) — worth 90pts

Say the stars alligned and we got all of those we would jump to 14th.

The most likey is we get 1 of Hatcher, Lawson, and add Timmons and Smith… which would land us somewhere between 19-25 depending on shifting of other schools

    not too bad

18 – I think that what Stoops is doing is more impressive than what Cal did his first year. Cal was an established head coach with lots of previous success at UMass and Memphis. And hadn’t Cal had been recruiting Wall, Cousins, etc. for Memphis?

    19) Slow down there, G-Unit. Rivals only counts the top 20 recruits each team has. We have 20 right now, so if we got let’s say Hatcher and Timmons, they would replace Reggie Meant (5.3 worth 30) and Steven Borden (5.4 worth 45). We would be +120 which would put us #25. Now if we’re optimistic and we get the other two, they would replace 5.5s which are worth 60. That would be +75, putting us at the #20 class in the country. THAT WOULD BE PHENOMENAL(!!) and its not too far out of question, but let’s not say we could end up with a top 15 class. Also, other schools are still looking to sign kids too, so we would still be likely to fall down.

It will be at least 3 yrs before we are really where we want to be in SEC but if Stoops keeps this momentum going we will get there!

The consensus on Woulard, is that the ship has sailed. I don’t know why, or how?? However, I have noticed he’s never had an offer from UK the whole time according to Rivals & ESPN.

UK offered Woullard, but he isn’t considered mission critical. Quarterback is one position UK is stacked at…would love to have him, but right now looking at Defensive Ends, LB’s and receivers.

Also, probably unrealistic that UK ends up with a top 20 football, probably more realistic at somewhere between 25-35 which is a significant improvement over past years.

  27. Really?

The #2 athletic QB in the country is not mission critical? Wow. OK. That’s one way to spin it, I suppose.

This is the right blog for anyone who wishes to understand this topic. You realize a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I personally will need to…HaHa). You definitely put a fresh spin on a subject that has been written about for ages. Great stuff, just great!
