It was an ugly first half that saw shot after shot the Cats threw up rim out, and two nut-shots to Marshall’s Elijah Pittman that set him back gasping for air. Kentucky held a 33-24 lead going into the locker room, which was all but erased coming back out.
The second half began just as ugly as the first; as the Thundering Herd scored the first five points, prompting Coach Calipari to call a timeout to regroup. Sluggish second-half starts are a trend this Kentucky team sorely needs to bust. But athleticism finally took over and Kentucky rolled to a relatively easy 82-54 victory.
— In the first half, it was all about Nerlens Noel. He had eight points and eight boards in the first 20 minutes while giving enormous effort that had the Rupp Arena crowd on their feet on multiple occasions. Some of the others on the court may not have been giving it their all, but no question Noel was. He finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
— Ryan Harrow continued to build on his climb of confidence. Aggressiveness and decisiveness were two keys to his 23-point day, which led the team. This was the third straight game he has set his season-high in points scored. And he has set the bar high for himself after tonight.
Mrs. Tyler will be by shortly with a full-game recap. Stay tuned.
