Cats Start Strong, Get Bored, Get Scared, Still Win 66-60

In a lot of ways this game almost mirrored the one in Athens.  The home team jumped out to a lead, only to see the visitors chip away at it in the second half, but they hang on to win by a margin of 6-7 points.  The Cats jumped ahead from the get go and had a strong first half – even looking like a final four team at times.  But they responded to increased bulldog intensity with a pretty poor effort in the second half and made the game far closer than it should have been.  A combination of increased offensive flow and defensive intensity got Georgia back into the game, but clutch plays from Knight and free throws from Liggins and Lamb – not to mention poor play from GA’s Thompkins – helped seal the deal for the Cats.  I’ll take the win, but I’ll feel guilty about doing it. The home streak says alive.

Stay tuned for more all night.

At which moments did we look like a final four team? Must have been when I went to the bathroom.

Bottom line is we got out played in the second half at home to a team that won’t even make the NCAA Tournament. That just can’t happen

There is absolutely nothing about this team that resembles a final four team.

In the first half, I would say we did. We had excellent ball movement, played good defense, and shot a high percentage. That’s what you need. Second half was a different story – but that’s what made the game disappointing.

We play like this the rest of the way…we are a 500 team…team has no heart…Cal has a big challenge ahead of him with the mindset of this team. Can’t believe this team can’t put together a complete game…must be using our football team’s game book.

STOP TAKING THE AIR OUT OF THE BALL SO EARLY…and does anyone else notice when Jones is out in the first half the open man scores, 2nd half he looks to take over every time. He pisses me off, especially at the end of the game, he tries to hold it to pad his stats, turns it over and fouls.

Something is missing on this team…..i know i know Kanter…..a big man….but seriously though….that I’m gonna beat your ass mentality on every play is not in these kids i guess…..so is it the kids that weren’t aggressive offensively in the 2nd half or is it Cal pulling them back? IMO Cal pulled them back and controlled the offense too much in the 2nd half and they became lethargic and complacent or lack of better word…LAZY

Another thing missing in this game was the crowd. What other teams call their “sixth man”. Ours sit in the upper arena never to be heard. What we have down low is our “senile seventh man”. Build a new arena and put the students down low. Let them help the team from having letdown moments.

If Jones, Knight, and Lamb are the “next” NBA’ers, then the NBA has severely dropped in talnet. Jones goes left every drive and has no elevation, Knight is a good shooter, but bump him twice and he cowers down not to mention he can beat his own guy off the dribble in the SEC, Lamb is a great shooter but plays hard for 7-8 minutes then goes into cruise control and cant recover.

If I was a NBA scout, I tell all 3 of those guys “maybe next year, we’ll see”.

On a second note, UK plays in front of 23000 fans on a big game fro SEC lead, and Ive heard churches be louder during confessions. That was pathetic. I watched the crowd the entire game and Im not sure if I EVER saw someone stand up.

You guys in here sound like a bunch of spoiled babies. UK got revenge on a team that manhandled them a few weeks ago and all you can do is whine, cry and give up on the rest of the season. UGA went to double overtime with the Gators and UK looked like the better team all day. No wonder coaches crumble at UK, it is Cal’s second year and you think he should be in the final 4. He had some kids tuen him down this past year that would have helped and we all know about Kanter. Just enjoy the season and if you want to give up I will take those SEC tickets right now.

I agree with #37 – Last year’s team didn’t close out big leads either – they let quite a few teams get too close after a good half. They were just flashier and caused more excitement when they did things. This year’s team is solid in a lot of areas, they just need to learn to play 40 minutes. These guys just seem to get bored when they get up big on a team. They get up for big games and play pretty well the whole time. I am not worried and everyone needs to chill out. I really think this team will be dangerous in the tournament…

#64) agree 100% so many people out there think they could be the UK and if they were they would never loose a game. This is college basketball you can win or loose at any given time. Everytime you play in the SEC you can loose any game. Arkansas just beat Vandy at Vandy. Give this team a break these are young kids playing their hearts out for KY and the fans. They are not perfect. Today was a good game they played well 1st half kinda laid back in the 2nd but still won. i’m from tennessee and love the blue and will never bad talk this team or anyone that comes in and wears the colors. good game guys. Patience, patience, patience people! Last time I checked we are tied for 1st in the SEC. 10 games remain and if we win 8 of those 10, we win the SEC outright. Probably won’t happen but we should win at least 6 of the 10 games and go into the SEC Tournament with 8 losses. With a good showing in Atlanta you are looking at a 3-seed, with a bad showing maybe a 5-seed. I think that is pretty good for a team that goes 6, maybe 7 deep.

One last thought, how would you compare us to the Butler team that made the title game last year? On our best day and last year’s Butler team, I say we beat them by 10. Trust in Cal my fellow blue bretheren!!!

If this entire team were coming back next year, with the exception of Lamb and Knight alternating at the two, I cannot see how ANY of the others would be starters. How Jones is so highly touted is beyond me. How many shots does he get blocked per game? His lack of aggessiveness, offensively and defensively is totally absurd. Before I would put up with the mediocrity the whole exhibited the second half tonight, thanks to Cal, I would sit their butts on the bench and play five more, win lose or draw. This team plays better when Jones is on the bench. If you stop him from going left, you effectively shut him down. Knight has to be the weakest player I have ever seen with the ball. A fifth grader could force a tunrnover. Cal, in my opinion has to play a couple more players, regardless of their ability, or these guys are going to be completely exhausted by the end of February. Do we need Teague or not?

You people who think you are fans and then have the gall to think you are better fans than those people who spend a ton of money to have seats in the lower section close to the floor had better look again. If you can’t support a 16-4 team you better find another team to bless with your insane comments. Most of you critics would’n know a basketball from a jock strap and probably never played a sport in your life. Get a life somewhere else. I’m sure tyhe Kentucky athletic department would look at your resume if you applied as an assistant coach, or maybe you think you are good enough to be the head coach. Some of you are a sad case. Jerry Tiption is smarter than you guys he knows exactly how to get under your skin and you idiots fall for it every time. The LHL knows how to sell papers, just stir up the dumb asses. Beware the fake enes.
