Cats start game asleep, awaken by a Joker, win 3rd straight

Those tire tracks are Derrick Locke’s.

If you were at the game, you may not have noticed this, but after what was easily the worst quarter of football this season, Joker Phillips LIT INTO his team before the 2nd quarter.  And it showed, as the offense finally clicked, the defense had its best performance so far, and Craig McIntosh looked pretty good kicking (sans the missed extra point), and the Cats pulled out their 3rd straight win to start this season with a 47-10 victory against an overmatched Akron team.

We will breakdown in more detail later, but its safe to say the team needs to play a better 4 quarters to have any chance against Florida next week.  The defense showed some improvement, especially in the run defense, but also should have been burned SEVERAL times for touchdowns in the 1st half on play action passes.  Mike Hartline was forced to throw the ball a bunch due to Akron’s packing the box, and I thought he handled it pretty darn well.  Once again, I think it proved that Joker made the right choice at quarterback.  And then once the passing game worked, it opened up the field for Derrick Locke, and he rushed for 166 yards.

For now, discuss your thoughts about the game in the comments section.  And in a little while Matt will begin his post game radio show, where you can call him with your questions and analysis.
