You may remember the local media wrote their usual “the Kentucky basketball schedule is not up to par” column this season when the Cats’ non-conference schedule was released three weeks ago. That narrative is a tale as old as time and like “Beauty and the Beast” has been seen or read by everyone since grade school. However as we stated then, it is actually not correct. Sports Illustrated’s Luke Winn disagrees and is ranking Kentucky’s non-conference schedule the 2nd best in nation. When you look at the other contenders to which he compares Kentucky, you see that the schedule is basically right on par with that of the hardest in the nation. Winn puts Georgetown first, then Kentucky, then Texas and then the Tennessee Vols.
What this means of course is that when local columnists say “this schedule is GARBAGE!”, they say it with little to no perspective. When you realize that perspective, you see that Kentucky’s schedule compares favorably with all in the nation.
