Cats open as a 13-point underdogs

The odds are out! And, it looks like Vegas doesn’t think much of Kentucky’s chances to beat Louisville on September 2nd, making them 13-point underdogs.

Lucky number 13?

The ‘Cats’ record over the past 20 years in games in which they were a 13+ point underdog? 4-53.

13 points huh? We’ll be lucky if we “only” lose by 13. And get use to being underdogs this season, folks, cause we may only be favorites against 1 or 2 mid-majors.

Mitch, the agony has got to stop, PLEASE do your job.

Wouldn’t be too surprised if we do lose by 13, but that is an awful lot for a rivalry game. I expect that to shrink a little though by game day.

1- Yeah, because most of those games were due to SEC teams. What’s our opening record as 13 point underdogs? I’d take the points, ul sucks.

If you have to label yourself as a REAL UK FAN then you probably aren’t a real fan. “get use to being underdogs this season”…uh hey real fan, if you aren’t USED to being an underdog by now then you definitely aren’t a real fan.

I really think it’s going to be a close game, like last year. We may surprise some people this year with some victories. Whether that means a bowl or not, I wouldn’t completely dismiss this team. We have the potential to win 6 Games. Go into the season hoping for the best, not assuming the worst. And if we do win more games than we originally thought, (That dreaded 4-8 Record people are predicting) don’t say “I knew we were underrated. I knew we could make it to a bowl,” because none of you are not even trying to support the team. If we suck, we suck. But don’t assume that from the start. Let them prove themselves first. Most of you haven’t even seen this team play yet.

1 – that seems about right for any team thats a 2 TD dog. That said, how many of those losses were against SEC opponents? Also, Vegas isnt as great the first game of the season. I like our chances here.

Even in good years, neither UK nor U of L is predictable enough to be a 13 point favorite. We are both capable of laying an egg when favored to win. There’s not enough talent discrepancy and if the underdog team plays hard and has a good game, they can win. WILL we win? Who know? CAN we win? Sure. That’s why they play the game. Watch and see.

9 – I think that’s the problem with the pessimistic crowd. They have made up their mind, are upset, and just want change. While Im OK with wanting change and not being Ok with the current results, I havent given up on this season either. There are reasons to be optimistic about this team and a win over Louisville is a realistic expectation.

#6 – I am a UK fan. I labeled myself that because I get tired of “fans” that support mediocre football claiming the “real fan” name. I’ve been going to UK games for over 30 years – even cheered on Joker as a player. But 6 or 7 years of decent football over that time has made me realize that Joker (the 1st time coach) is NOT getting the job done. You guys that think all the “experts” are wrong about UK finishing last in the east, or that we’re gonna beat uofl as 13 point dogs – are drinking or smoking something funny. I would like to know from the pro-Joker camp what you will think if we lose to uofl by 13+, lose 7 or 8 games, and have the 14th ranked recruiting class yet again? Why do we all have to suffer through the ‘Joker experiment?’

    Ps, please someone… my questions.

13 points down the first Q Well said number 14,,,,agree with you 100 %. As to why we have to suffer through the Joker era,,,,can’t answer that. Ask our AD.

14 – I don’t think there is a pro-joker crowd. There is a fire-joker crowd and a wait-and-see crowd. Neither are happy with the results or with losing football, but some want to see how this years team does and havent given up on the season. I think 4-5 wins or less will convert the wait-and-see crowd and Joker will be out. My question is if we beat UL and go to a bowl, will that be enough for the fans who are boycotting to be back? Would they support Joker for exceeding expectations?

Before the 6-6 doesnt deserve a bowl game crowd chimes in…i agree. However, those are the rules by which we play. I also want more than 6 wins and a mediocre bowl, but is that an acceptable season? If not, what coach comes to UK if making a bowl isnt good enough to keep your job?

I’ll take UK as a 13 point dog all day. I think this will be a close one. SEC games are another story. I don’t think I’d take 13 points in any of those except maybe Vandy.

The Pro-Joker crowd is silent (other than a few former players who want to be employed by him). My view of this team is that they could eek out a 3 point win over the Eastern Pkw school or lose by 30. My gut says that when they get down the 3rd score we will be hearing Dandy Don Meredith singing ‘turn out the lights…the party’s oooooooover’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3xsDv6yCnY . Better get used to the lyrics…you’ll be hearing them a Lot this season (including the Coaching Change & HUGE buy-out in November).

    16 and 14
I am pro-Joker, He deserves 4 years at least! @14 First I don’t think we will lose by +13 to uofl, second if we lose 7-8 games this season then I am fine with that. This team is very very young and they play in the SEC, I can’t expect much more. That being said, if Joker doesn’t go to a bowl in 2 years, then that is when I will be upset. Lastly, in general, it is very difficult to assign any given recruit a “star rating” considering there are thousands of HS players and none of them play AAU like in basketball. Wisconsin’s 2012 class is ranked 63 by Scout.com, yet Wisconsin is ranked in the Top 25 every year. Joker is doing a way better job recruiting than Brooks did, let him do his work.
@16 Fans shouldn’t boycott like they are, it is embarrassing.

#16 – Speaking only for myself… “IF” we beat uofl (other than a 3-2 shootout) and make a bowl game (you weren’t talking about a 6-6 squeak in?) then sure, I’ll be behind Joker for another season, and would attend games. BUT, if UK football does what 27% of previous ticket holders think AND what the experts think – I want both Joker and Mitch, gone. As bad a program as UK has been – there is still NO excuse to allow ‘on the job training’ here. What had Joker done to make Mitch think he could get the job done? NOTHING.

And if Vegas is saying 13 pts, there is a very slim chance we win – that would be a MAJOR upset. And, it ain’t happen’n…

You are not a “Real UK Fan”
For you to think that Mitch should be gone speaks volumes about your stupidity. He is the best AD UK has probably ever had and he is also one of the most highly regarded AD’s by other schools. The 27% of people that didn’t renew are awful fans (unless it truly was for financial reasons), people need to get out and support the TEAM, whether you like the coach or not. What had Joker done to make Mitch think he couldn’t get the job done?

#21 – There are exceptions to every rule (Wisconsin). But, there is a reason that the blue bloods of college football (Bama, USC, LSU, Fla, Texas, OSU, and FSU) continually have top 10 recruiting classes – they are good, and expect to be good. Wisconsin must be able to coach up players better Joker, huh? I will agree, under normal circumstances, the “new” coach deserves 4 years. BUT, Joker was on the previous staff AND recruited ALL these kids. So, if the kids that are Juniors and Seniors now aren’t good enough, then Joker should have done a better job for Brooks. And if the team is “young” – then Joker only has himself to blame. Isn’t it ironic that the team was decent (at best) Jokers first year and has gone down since – with expectations this year even lower? Brooks’ players and coaching is filtering out of the program by graduation – and unless we get a new coach – next year’s expectations will be even worse.

21 – 3 years is fair. If the program misses a bowl again and continues to win less games than you have to make a change. Im not anti-joker at all. As a UK alumni and former star wideout, I want him to succeed. I just want UK to succeed more. Im hoping he beats UL, gets back to a bowl, and proves all his doubters wrong. That said, he has to deliver results this season.

I do think Joker deserved this season. You only fire a coach in 2 years under extreme circumstances. CBC was an extreme situation. Joker is different as he is a UK alumni and hasnt had all the off-field drama as CBC. Plus Joker finished the year on a great note by ending the UT streak. All bets are off this year though. Win or go home.

I think we are going to stink this year. That being said, UL sucks, maybe slightly less than we do, but they’re are 50 teams better than them. 13 pts is a lot for a really average team to be favored by.

“Coach in waiting” or not, he still has to get his players. Yes Joker recruited Brooks’ players but you know Brooks had a say to whether a player got a scholarship or not. This is almost and entirely new administration than Brooks’ years. However, where you are dead wrong is saying “next year’s expectations will be even worse”. If Joker can’t get this team to a bowl game in 2 years then that is when I think he is not right for the job. This team is young, so was the 06′ team, this team should be really fun to watch in 2 years, like the 07’/08′ team.
    26
First, when were you a “star wideout”?
Second, 3 years is not fair, for any coach. New coaches deserve 4.

#25 / Common – It wasnt me that made the comment you are referencing. Reading comprehension is your friend. The dude was saying JOKER was “a UK alum and star wideout.” You not being able to follow that conversation tells me about all I need to know about you. Common, are you sure you aren’t Joker? Well, I hate to tell you – BUT – if UK doesn’t make a bowl game this year and looks as bad as most believe, Mitch will be forced to let Joker go. The President and Board will not allow ticket sales to drop again – by probably 40% from this years terrible numbers. So, now your excuse that Joker isn’t getting it done is that he is having to work with Brooks’ players? And that we need to give Joker 2 more years – to see what this group looks like? Dude, you ARE Joker! WOW!!!

I don’t blame Joker for the football abyss that is UK. He is a tool and is giving his best effort.

The UK AD knows what is going on and is passive at best, deceiving the public at worst. It is not in his job description to field a championship football team.

UK has no intention of fielding a championship football team. It is beyond UK to even try, thirty five years without a winning SEC season says it all. Root for your State University for reasons other than being competitive because we are not going to compete. If you think otherwise you are dreaming and UK has some tickets they want to sell you.
