Cats make SI’s ‘Magic Eight’

Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated took the time to lay out a pool of teams from which he guarantees the national champion will come, and luckily for those of you interested in having a reason to watch the rest of the season, Kentucky is on the list. These aren’t necessarily the best eight teams in the country, but simply an octet that he guarantees will contain the eventual champ. The ‘why’ as to him putting Kentucky in the group goes a little something like this:

Of the teams that already rank in the top five efficiency-wise, the Wildcats have the most upside. Their two highest-usage freshmen, hybrid forward Terrence Jones and point guard Brandon Knight, have yet to hit their peak, and junior leader Darius Miller has been surging in his past five games. They fit the teams-with-NBA-talent-win-titles formula — Jones and Knight, at the very least, have a future in the league — and they’re a much better shooting team than the loaded club that went ice-cold in last season’s Elite Eight.

The rest of the list includes BYU, Duke, Ohio State, Tennessee, Washington, Georgetown and Texas. Yup. Tennessee.

Discuss the list or the upcoming game below, and stick around for the Live Blog which will kick off around 6:30.

Go Big Blue.

When the Vols are on, they can beat anybody. Ask Pitt and Villanova. And not sure what you’re talking about with the Vandy and Ga comment #2..Oh yeah, I do. TN won a game, and OF COURSE they couldn’t have earned it on their own. Don’t give me any 3 seconds on Brian Williams or over the back. And Josh Bone’s shot was out of his hand before the shot clock hit zero, too. So just stop. If UK is THAT much better than UT, they’ll show it on the court.

Nothing like a Macon Sighting to get the evening started right. But that list ain’t about nothing.

BYU shouldn’t be on that list. I understand Jimmer is a freak but they have no one else and when he goes up against longer more athletic teams that could pose a problem for him.

Too soft, can’t put whole game together less only six. Kentucky won’t be there.

Adam, UK should not be on that list after losing to Ole Miss. SIT DOWN SON!

Luke Winn might want to update his list after that pathetic, pathetic loss to Ole Miss

Well isn’t this ironic after tonight’s game? The other teams are better because they actually have a man on the bench during a game,,,COACHING.

Who the hell is Luke Winn? Obviously a dumb ass! I wouldn’t use UK and National Champion in the same breath this year.

UK: Not enough size, experience, or leadership. One win and out.
BYU: The Jimmer will take the white legs deep but will fall just short of the Final Four.
Duke: Unfortunately, a possibility. Final Four.
Ohio State: Thad Matta will find a way to coach his team to a loss.
Tennessee: Henderson County can beat UT one out of 10 times. Enough said.
Washington: Not a chance. Beating up on PAC-10 teams doesn’t say much.
Georgetown: See Ohio State comments. Insert John Thompson III for Thad Matta.
Texas: Final Four if it gets the West #1 seed.

Kansas: National champion. Size, experience, great coaching.
    Pitt: Final Four.
UConn: Kemba Walker will not carry this team past the Elite 8.
SDSU: Depth, size, and coaching will carry this team far. One win shy of the Final Four.
