Cats make it interesting early, surge to 86-62 win

brandon-knight

Well, that was interesting for awhile.  After falling behind by double-digits early, Kentucky rallied past a hot-shooting Penn team thanks to some hot shooting of their own (18-22 in second half) and some of their trademark defense.  The Cats swatted 11 Quaker shots and absolutely murdered their Ivy League opponents on the boards.  Brandon Knight put together a smooth 22 points and Doron Lamb contributed 16 off the bench.  Josh Harrellson had another double-double (12 and 11), while Darius Miller contributed 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Terrence Joneshad a very quiet 10 and 8.  Now, it’s on to Georgia and time to take on the SEC.

Be back with more in a bit…

Another great game for Josh. He is what UK is all about, doing anything you can for that name on the front. All the guys are like that or are moving in that direction. Not sure we are gonna get that depth w/ out Enes. Just don’t see those guys stepping up unfortunetly. Regardless, I think when the season is over this team will be special and will hold a special place in the hearts of the fans.

Terrence Jones is a really good player but I hope he quits disappearing in the first half. We need all we can get out of him for the whole game, especially since there is not a lot of depth.

Cal is not letting Jones play. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or not. It’s hard to tell a kid to stop playing the way he played when he put 27 and 17 for instance but Cal knows better what the team is gonna need from Jones in March and he’s trying to make him buy into it. What do you think?

I’ll say it again. KSR and BWO need to hook up. and not like a john/hooker arrangement either. I’m all for us UK fans having complete access to UK football and basketball games on-line.

I wasn’t able to watch the game and was hoping to see it later.

But espn 360 doesn’t have it listed under “live” or “replay.”
Does anyone know if it was on earlier/will be posted for replay later?

26- well i think, and believe me, my opinion is very ass-like, but i’d say it’s been more about our other guys making a serious play in our offense. we have dpended on jones for the first part of the season. we need to develop the other guys if we are gonna make a legit move for the final four

This team may not be as individually talented as last year’s, but I really believe they will be a better “TEAM” than last year’s come tourney time. As long as we don’t suffer any major injury that is.

  41. SagaciousMind
    9:48 pm January 3, 2011 Permalink

Jones had to put up big scoring numbers in the beginning, but now Josh is gettin open a lot because of it and now Jones is rackin up the assists. Pretty soon teams will stop double teamming him and then he’ll be able to play one on one again. But he’s been missing shots, he still needs to do some work. And he has trouble shooting free throws because he shoots funky. He releases it like he’s shootin right handed. Cal worked on Miller and his shot last year so he needs to pull Jones and work on his.

There’s nothing wrong with Jones. He is doing what Cal wants – don’t be quick with the trigger. The rest of the team is playing well too, so he isn’t feeling pressure to carry them.

  48. chief_cat
    10:46 pm January 3, 2011 Permalink

T Jones will be fine. Defenses are concentrating on him – he’s getting double and triple-teamed at times. Instead of trying to force the action (he had to the first few games), he is finding the open man (usually Jorts) and making some nice dishes. Remember, early on fans were complaining that he needed to remember there were four other teammates on the floor. Now, the complaints are coming in that he is disappearing. We’re still winning and T Jones is rounding out his game. As long as we keep winning, I wouldn’t change a thing.

#48 & 49…Thank you! A voice of reason! Jones is fine, other people are stepping up MORE! The kid is a force and will get better, just like the rest of the team. We need balance because we have no depth. Jorts and Miller are the keys to this team being great…

  50. rockatao
    11:47 pm January 3, 2011 Permalink

I think there’s a lot of selective memory going on .. Jones has been up and down all year. He has 4 games over 20 points, he has 6 games with 12 or less points. Now that teams know how to defend him, he’s going to have a harder time scoring. He is not a good shot outside 10 feet and he’s going to get double-teamed constantly in the post.
