Cats Jump Eight Spots In ESPN’s Power Rankings

After scoring back-to-back wins against ranked teams, the minds behind ESPN’s basketball coverage restored some of their confidence in John Calipari’s team, allowin them to jump to #16 in the new edition of their new weekly power rankings.  The Cats leap-frogged the Commodores to place as the SEC’s second-best team (Florida is #13), while their intrastate rivals moved up four spots to #12.

The rankings are based off of a group of 15 ESPN college basktball writers , researchers and TV personalities (Fran Fraschilla opted out this week).  Worth noting, of those who had them unranked last week, Fraschilla did not particpate, Forde placed them at #21, McCallum at #19, Schlabach at #18, Simon at #18, and Jay Williams at #23.

Here is where each member of the panel ranked the Cats:

Jay Bilas: 17
Eamonn Brennan: 17
Brett Edgerton: 16
LaPhonso Ellis: 18
Pat Forde: 21
Doug Gottlieb: 15
Andy Katz: 22
Diamond Leung: 17
Joe Lunardi: 18
Jason McCallum: 19
Dana O’Neil-Forde: 21
Mark Schlabach: 18
Miles Simon: 18
Dick Vitale: 16
Jay Williams: 23

Amazing how quickly I can go from not being able to look at Gottlieb and then liking him in such a short time frame.

Harley doesn’t understand this newfangled math that puts us at 16. Somebody splain it to me.

Fuzzy math? How do you end up #16, when 3 had us 16 or 15 and the rest lower? and miles Simon can eat a d***.

#15 Because this is not simply an average of UK’s rankings.

Other teams obviously came out with an average rating that fell below UK.

Since when did Dana O’Neil add that Forde on the end of her name? Also, what are the chances that she and Pat Forde make love next to a lifesize poster of Coach K in a bedroom that is decorated to look like Cameron Indoor Stadium? Oh well, at least Jimmy Dykes doesn’t get an opinion…

Looks like Gottlieb believes more than others. I still think this KY team can really give some people fits if the match – ups work out. The tourney is very guard oriented, and KY can literally have a four-guard type of offense.

Jay Bilas is actually turning out to be a realistic analyst. It’s an effing shame the Forde family can’t be objective.
