Cats headed to Tampa to play Princeton

 princeton

Kentucky was picked as the #4 seed in the East region and is set to play Ivy League champion Princeton.  The Cats are in the East bracket and will play in Tampa Thursday.  It was a bit of a curious draw for the Cats, who appeared to be a lock for a #3, but they now get the pleasure of upsetting the tournament’s top overall seed, Ohio State, in the Sweet 16.  Actually, considering Florida just got a two, it’s more than curious.  It’s f’ing absurd.

The seeds in the East are as follows:

#1 Ohio State
#16
#8 George Mason
#9 Villanova
#5 West Virginia
#12 Clemson/UAB
#4 Kentucky
#13 Princeton

Well, as usual the SEC championship game win helps the ‘Cats not at all. I think the game is played too late to have any impact on the seeding; I’m pretty sure the selection committee has everything set my noon, with a couple of altermate scenarios should a cinderella win their tournament.

Gee, who would have guessed that Duke would play their first round game in Charlotte, eeven though they are the lowest @1 seed? Sure didn’t see that coming. Where’s BTI?

    31) that is the pod system for the first two rounds which aims to keep every team as close as home as possible. The region you are in has nothing to do with where you play till the second weekend. F the NCAA committee. Seriously, a 4 seed and allowed Florida who we beat down twice to get a 2 seed? I want a bag of the stuff you a-holes are smoking. Florida beat us once, by two, on their floor. We beat them by much more at our house and waxed them on a neutral floor. Fine, I want another shot at sucky ass WVU. Those SOBs got lucky last year, got so lucky on those 3’s. 9 times out of 10 we stomp them, they got lucky and drained a lot more threes than they normally do. Not this year, we’ll kill these backwood redneck inbred F’ers. Going up against OSU is different. Would love to whip them also, not sure we’re good enough of a “team” to do that, but hoping we can. I’ll be cheering for it. Go Big Blue! Suckeyes can suck it.

The evidence for clear bias in favor of Duke. Carolina wins the ACC regular season. Duke wins the ACC tourney, which clearly, the NCAA committee used to justify bumping Duke up to a 1 seed. Florida wins SEC regular season and gets beaten, pretty badly, by UK, and in winning the SEC tourney, UK does not improve their seed at all.

I mean, I for one, only care about NCAA championships…but if you don’t like bringing home the SEC hardware (like me), you have to like the experience of putting it all on the line 3 straight days. I don’t really care about the SEC trophy, but it’s nice to OWN and it’s nice to put some demons to rest before we kick that ass in the NCAA’s. A 4 is not a problem. If you look at it, we have the easiest first weekend as a 4 and then shit gets real! Jorts plays well and we win against O St. by 8…got to beat the best to be the best!

As far as getting the 4 seed, thats a joke to this years selection committee job. Florida gets a 2 seed..Then why in the hell do we have league tournaments for…The seeds were made before anything happen in the SECT….so why play it..

The draw sucks, I was pretty pissed at first. But there isn’t some deep seeded hatred the NCAA has for UK. The committee is made up of members of universities around the US. So the whole NCAA is out to get us is just annoying. Let it go. And as far as duke, ya they got a weak weak 2, but at least they have texas as a 4 seed. Really Pitt got the easiest bracket with florida as a 2, and BYU as an insanely weak 3. But ultimately all I really care about is how uk does. And while our draw is tough, it all comes down to just beating who you are pitted against. And I do think we can make a deep run, regardless of the draw.

Starter and sixth man go down in game Saturday, they really do not wait until Sec tourney is over, ranked sixteen at the time. Duh. We are the weakest four seed pre game at start of final game. Sounded bad at game time. Selection committee not Waiting on outcome of sec tournament. Sec needs to address this issue for tournaments in future.

First of all this was a pathetic job by the selection committee, but there’s nothing we can do now about the draw, we just have to go in and do work. If we keep playin like we have been anything is possible. Also watching bracketology on espn, the commentators are seriously pissed and I think something might finally be done about the joke that has become the NCAA.

“Kentucky (11). What’s to like: Another fantastic six-man rotation that features at least two potential lottery picks in point guard Brandon Knight and forward Terrence Jones. Young Wildcats have made big strides late, winning close games and big games away from Rupp Arena. John Calipari has had some major NCAA tourney successes. What’s to doubt: Lack of depth leaves the Wildcats susceptible to injury or foul concerns. Lack of experience from key players leaves them susceptible to execution concerns in the pressure of the tournament. Was the SEC sufficient seasoning to beat the best from other leagues?”

    3. The SEC tourney title is a good thing because at least it’s something you can hang your hat on if you get screwed out of a good NCAA tourney draw.
    4. UCONN better keep that winning streak going. They may be the only obstacle to Duke’s run to the Final 4.

‘Does it really surprise you? What does it really matter? If we play the way we have, we’ll be alright. You can tell we play our best when we feel like our backs are against the wall. Just look at it this way, we have beat a 2 seed twice in the last week and a 1/2 and barely lost to them on their home floor. I don’t think they are that much worse than Ohio State. Our biggest hurdle is Huggins. But I think we shoot better this year and they have no Butler. Kevin Jones is good but our defense will be too much for them. Sullinger, Deibler and Lightey would be tough to stop but we will find out how good we really are.We oughta have a little faith in this team after witnessing these last two weeks and how Cal has got these guys playin their best ball at the right time. I have to admit I got pretty low when Kanter didn’t work out and when we dropped all those close road games. Butlook how Josh is playin and Miller has really come into his own. Liggins has brought something to this team that no one else can.

First was the Kanter ruling, and now this seeding BS is ridiculous. I don’t think it is everyone, but there are certainly a few, and those few have pull. Nothing is done innocently in the country with regards to large scale decisions, and at a very minimum, let’s say I am totally wrong, well, they are a very ambiguous, unprofessional, and inconsistent organization, and their “customers” have every right to complain about the job that they do. We are hunter instead of being hunted unlike last year. We were number one seed and how did we get rewarded playing one of the strongest #2 seed in WV going into the NCAA Tournament. I think we will be just fine. We are good 3 point shooting team and one stat we do not talk about is how efficient this team really is giving up only 6 turnovers against a veteran Florida. Also overall #1 seed does not fare well in the NCAA Tournament but with our luck OH St will be the first overall #1 seed to cut down the nets.

Okay, I’m coming to peace with some of this. The selection committee is either incompetent, corrupt, or both. ESPN doesn’t give two shits about the UK or SEC (I’ve only heard one guy bring up the UK/Florida injustice once tonight, Dick Vitale). But here’s the bright side:

    — Get a chance to avenge last year’s loss to Wva

    — They not only made Ky a 4 when it clearly earned a three (or one, if you judge by UF’s insane seeding) but it also put it in the No. 1 overall seed’s bracket. The good news is that I think Ky matches up better with Ohio State than all the other No. 1 seeds. Remember, Ohio State only plays 7. Diebler is good, but he hasn’t met Mr. Liggins yet. Put our six against any other six and I’ll pick UK, so they may have done us a favor there.

    — Basically the selection committee revoked UK’s SEC championship three hours after they won it. It’s insane. But if this doesn’t put a chip on their shoulder I don’t know what will. Brandon Knight is a cerebral guy; it’s going to motivate him. And we should get a chance to do it against Gene Smith’s own team in the round of 16. They gave us a good script to work with.

Princeton will be just like Cornell. Solid foundation but we are too talented to give that game up. WVU is nothing like last year, first Desean Butler is gone, and Mazzulo played the game of his career. OSU has their own pressure points. If we defend well we have a fighting chance. Sullinger in foul trouble and/or Eloy sacrificing fouls in the paint we can contain him. Liggins can take Diebler easily. “Defense wins championships” – Orlando Smith.
May be the worst draw we could have received, but the cats ALWAYS have a chance to do something great. Don’t lose faith!
