It wasn’t pretty and at times it seemed like the Rupp Arena crowd was sleeping, but Kentucky did what they had to do to put away Chattanooga. The story of the game was Terrence Jones’ poor play. He seemed to jam his pinkie finger early in the first half and demonstrated obvious discomfort with it throughout the rest of the game. Jones’ scoreless outing means that through his last five halves of basketball, he’s scored four points. Matt said on the live blog that Coach Cal told Terrence to go in with about six minutes left in the game and Terrence told him that he couldn’t. That ain’t good.
In other news, Anthony Davis posted 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half and finished with 14 points, 18 boards and five blocks. Doron Lamb was the leading scorer with 24 and Marquis Teague had eight assists to only one turnover. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist put up a very pretty line as well with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. That guy is a gamer.
Chattanooga shot worse from the three point line than I expected. The Mocs went 8-27 from distance. Better perimeter defense by the Cats? Let’s assume so.
We’ll have more later. Until then say your prayers for Terrence’s pinkie.
