Cats Handle Mocs 87-62

MVP

It wasn’t pretty and at times it seemed like the Rupp Arena crowd was sleeping, but Kentucky did what they had to do to put away Chattanooga. The story of the game was Terrence Jones’ poor play. He seemed to jam his pinkie finger early in the first half and demonstrated obvious discomfort with it throughout the rest of the game. Jones’ scoreless outing means that through his last five halves of basketball, he’s scored four points. Matt said on the live blog that Coach Cal told Terrence to go in with about six minutes left in the game and Terrence told him that he couldn’t. That ain’t good.

In other news, Anthony Davis posted 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half and finished with 14 points, 18 boards and five blocks. Doron Lamb was the leading scorer with 24 and Marquis Teague had eight assists to only one turnover. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist put up a very pretty line as well with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. That guy is a gamer.

Chattanooga shot worse from the three point line than I expected. The Mocs went 8-27 from distance. Better perimeter defense by the Cats? Let’s assume so.

We’ll have more later. Until then say your prayers for Terrence’s pinkie.

Sophmore ups and downs for Jones…he’ll be fine with a few more cupcakes before the UofL game and the SEC…at least I hope so!

Davis looked good, Lamb was back to his game and MKG was once agian the player of the game! Miller did a good job too, played his role. He’ll be a huge factor down the road and a leader for this team.

I’m seriously worried about Jones. You never know how fragile someone’s psyche is and you don’t want to see him transfer out, have no clue if he even is thinking about it or would just quit until draft but you don’t want to see him go down a path that hurts his future beyond UK. Never know what’s going on in somebody’s life.

Jones acts like he wants to keep his amateur status. Sadly, that is the only thing he is executing well. For heavens sake, Terrance, man up! Or if something is wrong, Cal needs to get him some help.

Jones should have left for the NBA a la Cousins due to the law of diminishing returns with volatile players. Cal seems to sign all these good players yet UK doesn’t have quality depth.

You people need to cool it on the T Jones gossip. This kid came back to better himself and win a championship. None of you know what’s actually going on, and there could just as easily be nothing going on. So just shutup for awhile until you know what is or isn’t going on.

There is clearly something going on with Jones. I believe it is a personal issue. Jones is so talented that he could score 10 points and grab 5 boards a game without breaking a sweat, if he is right. Since Coach Cal has people skimming the message boards and blogs, here’s some advice: give Jones a few games off to deal with his problems, heal, and re-group. He needs to be right for the SEC schedule and beyond. He is dragging this team down and it is unnecessary. Just my two cents.

How do we have no scholarships but only have 7 rotation guys in Cals 3rd year? We have up start getting productive 3-4 year guys. We need some Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson type guys.

Have none of you all ever had a string of bad luck? T. Jones is ok, he has just had a string of bad luck. A bad game then a injury that isn’t serious but when makes you pretty ineffective when its on your shooting hand. And those of you implying he is a puss must not have watched the full press conference. Cal mentioned that Jones tried to play through it, he even gave him credit for trying to play through it. Sit Jones out Tuesday to give him time for his finger to get back to normal.

Jones is a major talent…just going through a rough patch. Give the kid a break. Let’s all hope that he didn’t break a finger or tear a ligament in his shooting hand. Anyone bitching about his performance tonight obviously hasn’t played enough basketball to know how much hurting your shooting hand can screw up your game.

Jones looks like his head is spinning. He needs a sports psychologist NOW. We gave him shit for not showing up at IU but it’s obvious now that the problem is much deeper than that.

I actually started feeling sorry for him tonight.

43, you are missing the point, I’m saying we need a few more role players to go with our stars. It seems we go from stars walk-ons. Maybe Poole and Hood would have been those guys, we’ll never know.

Why bash the kid? What does that say about you as a person? There is something wrong with this kid that we are not being told about. He has never looked this bad at anytime since he has been here. He wanted out of the game tonight acting like he had an injury and its easy to see thats not what it is. There is something going on and we may not find out for a while but our team is responding good even with him being out so thats a really good sign for the rest of the guys

I’m starting to worry about him..I just hope people don’t give him a hard time…somethings bothering him. BBN needs to support him. He doesn’t need idiots bashing him.

28- If Jones wanted to come back with a vengeance to win it all, he is not doing a very good job of proving it! As an athlete your inner self pushes you to win, win, win. I feel he is having difficulties playing with an allstar lineup. I think that if he was playing on a team with only 1 other all-american, he would not have to share the spotlight and his production would be higher!

I support the team and TJ, but something is wrong with him. I suspect the car incident is not an innocuous as the local media attempted to make it. The most difficult ages are 17-22. I do not like his body language and effort, but I am honestly more concerned about what that means for him than how it effects the team’s performance. I hope Cal is on it. Cal get him some help.
