This has been quite the exciting offseason for Kentucky basketball fans as the John Calipari regime has stormed the gates of Lexington and rubbed those two things together and jump-started the basketball pulse of everyone in town. We’ve seen recruiting coups, Twitter madness, LeBron photo ops and just about everything else filed in the dictionary under “un-Clydely”. All of these things, of course, raise the profile nationally of the Wildcats and, today, the pre-season buzz got another boost as a couple of subjective rankings were released.
– Jeff Goodman released a list of the best basketball games of the 2009-10 season and the Cats found themselves occupying three of the top five slots. Their New York City made-for-TV matchup with the UConn Huskies topped the list and the UNC battle found its place at #3. The annual grudge-fest with the Filthy Cards took the fifth spot.
– Also, Andy Katz took his best guess as to what names would be on the pre-season list of Wooden Award candidates and included Patrick Patterson. Katz also listed John Wall as a name who could work his way into contention by the end of the year.
