Cats get their man, beat Windsor 95-62

mountie

It wasn’t always pretty, but in the end the Cats did what they needed to, stretching a single-digit halftime lead into a 33-point win. A few quick notes on the game:

Brandon Knight. Wow. 31 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 0 turnovers. Everything he did was as good as advertised, and maybe a little better. Obviously we can’t glean a lot from a random exhibition game in Canada in August, but if tonight is any indication whatsoever, he can flat out play.

Darius Miller and DeAndre Liggins also both got it done tonight. The energy from both was great and and they were aggressive on both ends. Good to see, especially from Liggins, who has been the summer practice star of 2010.

It was a dunkfest for Jon Hood, who got a few fairly easy throw downs and looked solid. At least tonight, he seemed to shed a little of the tentativeness from last year and hopefully will be even more aggressive in the next two games and into the season.

Jarrod Polson got some clock and a couple of baskets. Good to see his post Backstreet Boy career off to a good start.

–Coach Cal took a page out of the Bob Huggins playbook and decided to dress down for the game. It was a dubious choice.

–Monty Hardware is a great name.

–On the injury front, Terrence Jones left with a shoulder injury and his status is up in the air for the remainder of the trip. DeAndre Liggins left in the second half with what appeared to be leg cramps, although the broadcast cut out not long after that and I have no idea if he returned or if there was a status update, although he appeared to be ok.

Matt will be along with more later. Basketball season is underway in the Bluegrass, and it feels so good. Feel free to discuss the game, team, or Cal’s wardrobe below.

Go. Big. Blue.
