Cats escape first game, 75-66

In a game that was a lot closer than the final score indicated, Kentucky escaped a feisty Ole Miss team in their first SEC Tournament game, 75-66.  Kentucky got considerable help from Darius Miller down the stretch and some nice contributions from Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight after the pair struggled mightily for the majority of the contest.  The star of the day was Doron Lamb, though, as the freshman guard exploded for 19 points on 7-10 shooting.  Josh Harrellson added 13 and 7.  Kentucky will be chastised for their dumb fouls and some poor defense, but they were fairly good for the most part, only being victimized early by tough, contested shots.  Nonetheless, they found a way to close out another close one and now move on to face the Alabama Crimson Tide.  Time to celebrate.

Ole Miss player Buckner went after a UK player in the tunnel. Punches may have been thrown.

Some kind of brawl between the players in the tunnel going to the locker rooms.

That over and back call (or lack thereof) was a more blatant neglect of competence on the part of the refs than the Big East debacle, it just wasn’t a game changing call…terrible.

I cannot believe Liggins was involved!! How silly is it to have the 2 teams use the same tunnel!!

Liggins and Buckner bumped into each other in the handshake line after the game, and were mouthing off to each other then. If you recorded the game check it out

Lex18 showed video of the end of the “fight” in the tunnel. It showed Buckner of Ole Miss being pulled away and pushed down the hall. Couldn’t see any UK players in the shot, but the way liggins was talking and scraping during the game, I bet he was involved.

17 – I don’t think that is true. Where did you hear that? I think it would be all over the place by now if it were true.

League better think long and hard about whether they want to suspend players on winning teams because the losers are sore losers and start something.

Andy [the Cab Driver beater] Kennedy has been a great role model for these sore loser from Oxford. I hope DeAndre Liggins did not start the fight. I agree I am not sure why they use the same tunnel to exit the court. Or why don’t they let team exit one at a time like they do in the Kindergarten.

Buckner did go after liggins and did throw punches but no UK players were really involved. Lucky enough to get it on tape. Buckner was going insane, took about 3 assistant coaches to get him out of there.

I hope that T. Jones goes to NBA the wildcats dont need him. He is he is not very athletic and has left a lot of shots short as he is falling down. let him go and ride the pine in NBA

    7:16 pm March 11, 2011 Permalink

If Jones put forth half the effort that Harrellson did he would be much better player…he is as athletic as anyone but I think has no BB I.Q…can’t believe Cal keeps allowing him to brick all those 3’s…he still seems to be timid to take it to the rim…probably knows it will be blocked if he does.

To Assistant Coach: I set in sec 230 row 2 seat 9. This is what I saw. at end of
game hand shake Liggens meet a Miss player and something must have been said because
backed away pointing at the Miss player. My impression was Liggens was trying to
avoid a confrontation at this point. I kept watching as both teams exited the floor
together. When they got to the opening of the corridor I saw a Miss player come at
Liggins and again Liggins backed off as an attempt to avoid a confrontation. Saw no
punches but as the teams walked on in to the corridor white and maroon jerseys came together
together and I could tell something had busted loose that was not good. I could see
at least one yellow coat event staff entervene. Up to this point I saw Liggins
back away giving me the impression he was trying to avoid trouble two different
times….when walking through the hand shake line and when first entering the
corridor. This is only the second time I have ever posted on KSR but I thought this
was important enough to post. This is exactly what I saw. Lay a bible in front of me
and I will swear on it. Real question is….What the devil are both teams leaving the
floor together and where the hell are all the staff that should anticipate this type
    of trouble.

    11. Sorry, but from my understanding, it was not a over and back. A team has to be in control of the ball, or it be considered to be in their possession, in order for a over and back to be called. Ole Miss was not in control of the ball. They shot, ball bounced off rim, Ole Miss player swatted it. They never had possession after the shot. Some one can correct me if they find some other explanation of the rule.
