Cats Destroy LSU, Win 82-44

In a result that surprised no one, Kentucky absolutley killed the LSU tigers today by a score of a lot to considerably fewer than a lot.  Kentucky opened the game with two threes from Brandon Knight and never looked back.  Overall Kentucky was lead by a balanced attack with four players with 15 or more, but it was the early defense that lead to transition buckets that really set the game loose.  This continues Calipari’s undefeated streak in Rupp Arena, and gives LSU their first SEC loss of the season.

It can be tough to get hyped for a less than stellar opponent, but there’s not much you can do other than blow them out, and blow them out is what Kentucky did.  The young Cats took care of business today, like we expected, not much more you can ask.  More to come later in the day, but for now, enjoy this team folks, they’re beginning to look special.

one of the better perfomances by the Cats in a while. When I seen the Hood stean and dish to Vargas for the dunk I thought I was in the Twilight zone or thought we were playing LSU. Then i realized we were playing LSU. haha GO CATS!

Clearly an inferior opponent to judge how well we played. Whats up with Jorts only putting up 2 points?

Was a good looking win no matter who we played! Jorts doesn’t get or ask for the ball on offense, all his points are off rebounds!

i was going to say how long will it be before we see a critial comment after a 40 point route of a conference foe. Never ceases to amaze me that someone will want every player on the roster to score 50 points, and win 300-0 every game.

Ah I see 11 is a punk. Stop hiding behind my username. So I asked why jorts only had 2 points, whats the prob with that? its a valid question. We are in SEC play. Even Cal would agree with me, 2 points is not enough from your big man if you want to dominate.

great balanced attack by the Cats. i think it would take a few dominos to fall the right way in order for UK to make a run past the elite 8 but if the threes are falling i dont see to many teams out scoring this team. would still like to see Vargas or Hood or even Poole step up and quit looking like middle school players playing against mediocre college players. Hood and Vargas were highly touted coming into college but play no where near their hype. just imagine this years team with next years and its not out of the question either

Jort’s offensive game wasn’t great – 1 for 6 shooting and missed his only FT.

Good balance and nice team effort all around other than Jones…yes he scored and had a lot of points but he pressed the issue all game long as if when he touched it there was 5 seconds on the shot clock!

Too much one on one from Jones today and a little too much ball hogging for me to say he played well. I actually got tired of seeing him catch it and was hoping no one would pass it to him! He’s starting to wear on me…I know he’s a great player and has awesome skills…he needs to learn team ball though!

The rest of the team…good job guys!

Does anyone else see Jones as a problem? Maybe Calipari wants him to take a shot every time he touches the ball but it just looks bad when he takes a shot with 3 guys on him and you have a guy standing at the 3 point line wide open. Of course, Jones misses those shots when we had open looks everywhere. I don’t know… I am pulling for Jones to get better but he just isn’t even close right now. If he does get there, we really do have a shot at winning the title.

Very good win but as some have said difficult to tell how really good we played because of the competition. Our D seemed to be pretty steady all game. Harrellson, Hood, and Jones were 5 of 25 and that won’t cut it. Harrellson and Hood missed a ton at the basket.

I wish Jones would pass more. 0 assists in the game. He’ll go pro at the end of the year, but I think he’d be well served by a second year. Unfortunately he seems to care more about impressing NBA scouts than playing for Kentucky.

  34. Issel's two front teeth

It’s hard to get Hood or Poole in to the flow when they come in, and immediately Knight and Jones go into a two man game, where Jones catches the ball and goes one on ever how many are on him. Coach talks about these guys coming off the bench and contributing, but everything starts going through Jones when Hood, Vargas, and Poole go in the game. How about calling a play or two for these guys to get them going? Jones = Crawford.

Pretty good game. The damn rim had a nice block on liggins dunk. He played good getting some points.
Jones reminds me of a second grader. He plays like if he doesn’t score we will loose. He pouts like someone stole his cookie.
    Knight is our best player.
Jorts was just throwing the ball at the basket not really shooting.
Today is the most we should ever expect out of Miller, if that.
Lamb could have been better….he’s been watching dissapeareus too much I guess.
Good to see Hood and Poole but they’re not very good.
Vargus is funny to watch. My 11 yr old daughter could block him out.
Dale Browns come over is shrinking a bit.
    Nothing wrong with winning though.

    My thoughts exactly BBN!!

TJ was and has been BALLHOGGING for awhile now. It kills the flow of the game. I thought he was learning when we played the Cards, but he is playing selfish ball now. Look out NCAA, BKnight is coming, he is looking better and better every game. I wish Cal would get Poole and Polson in the game sooner. I mean we were up by 30 and the starters are still in, we have to develop these guys in “real” game situations. Good game though..

    GO BIG BLUE!!!

    Will,

It’s two paragraphs, brutha. The word is “led”, not “lead”. Kentucky was outscoring the Tigers, not attempting alchemy. And “considerably less than a lot”? Did you mean “more than a lot?” Not tryin’ to be mean, but like I said, it’s two paragraphs for Pete’s sake.

Jones taking up the ball repeatedly up the floor after every rebound drives me crazy. Thats why we have BK, it takes the flow out of the game. Jorts rebounding effort was great but a few more points on the board would have done him good too. Vargas is way too soft, gets beat easily. Liggins and Miller played great. We need more Miller time

WTF? If not for jones we only shoot five free throws! When u r down low u have to go up strong. U can’t always pass it out. I admit there were times when he prob shouldve but my god u people act like he is destroying this team n he is averaging around 25 ppg in conference play!! You people bitch waaaaayyyy too much!!!! Good point on Jones bringing the ball up the court…sure there are times when he should but not every time he touches after a rebound! He’s acting as though he’s trying out for the NBA every game lately! Terrible shooting from him too…IDK…Jones is a talent no doubt but he is not a PG and needs to play his PF position!

When he does (stepping out from time to time to hit an open 3), UK plays much better and keeps the inside outside game going nicely. Even Josh gets involved on the offense due to double teams on Jones. He just wasn’t very good today (Jones) even with the points he had!

Knight may be the best talent on this team…steady game and improves every game! Loving his leadership and learning ability!

  52. RidgeRunner

No doubt The Blue Knight is team MVP at this stage in the season –but Liggins is one vital component to our success and what he does don’t show up in the box score.

  53. enes
    7:29 pm January 15, 2011 Permalink

The real enes says: Jones is under a lot of pressure form Cal to preform, so he is trying too hard right now. Cal will adjust everything and get him back to where he needs to be, plus he is playing much deeper than he did at the first of the season and he has an adjustment to make there. He’ll be OK and get back to his average soon. Beware the fake enes!

What happens when the Cats are on the road and Jones is throwing up BS shots and doesnt get the calls?

  61. Issel's two front teeth
    12:51 am January 16, 2011 Permalink

We have several guards on the team who can dribble and shoot, what we don’t have many of, are guys who can post up and receive passes from the wing! Jones wants to hang out by the three point line and shoot or dribble into the heart of the defense and hope for a whistle.
When Jones hunts his shot, everybody else starts standing around, because they know he is not going to pass the damn ball, just like Crawford used to do.
You say Jones has done everything asked of him, then why does Coach Cal keep screaming “pass the ball” at Jones as he is headed back down court on defense?

  62. ???????
    6:38 am January 16, 2011 Permalink

I have no problem Jones taking it to the hole when it’s one on one. That was the case sveral times toight even though he failed to convert sevaral times. My problem is when he is doubled and seems not to know how to pass. Once he figures that out, we will be seeing a special player.
