The global takeover by Kentucky basketball didn’t take the weekend off, as Josh Harrellson and Jon Hood continued to get it done on their overseas trip. This time their Sports Reach tour took them to Shizhou, in the southeast region of China, where the Cats and their squad escaped with a 78-77 win over Bayi in the fifth of a nine game series.
While Hood did have his best shooting game of the tour, going 5-for-11 from the field and 1-for-3 from deep for 11 points, the story out of the far east continues to be Jorts. He tallied his second double-double of the series with 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 12 rebounds, both team highs. Harrellson leads the team in scoring through five games, averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, which also tops the team. Though the recent commitments of Eloy Vargas and Terrence Jones will cut into his ability to see a lot of clock next year, it’s good to see him lighting it up overseas nonetheless.
Larry Vaught’s writeup also includes some notes from Sports Reach director Robby Speer about what the team is doing in their downtime which, among other things, includes eating some cow intestines. Mmmm. Regardless of their cuisine, the Cats are still working hard to spread the good word and the good word of Kentucky basketball to the far corners of the world, and for that we love them.
