KSR leaves town and the stars come out…but the Cats responded with a solid performance and a 21 point win. Some notes:
— There were six NBA scouts at the Morehead game last night and before the UK game, two of them told me that the next few games would be big for Patrick Patterson. They know that he has improved but they want to see how he responds to some adversity in the middle of the season. Well if that is true, then last night was a big step. 23 points and domination in the paint and on defense. Patterson’s last three games have all been stellar and he is hitting his peak for the final stretch run. Good for him.
— Now the Cats move on to play the Vols on Sunday, in a game that can clinch an SEC title, the first for the Cats since 2005. Much has been made of the Thursday-Saturday turnaround, but the Cats have benefited from that turnaround in two earlier games, so one cant really complain. With the snowstorm on the East Coast, the UK-Tennessee game will be attended by all of the major college basketball writers and is the last real chance for UK to make its case for seeding in the Tournament. I expect another good performance but a game that goes down to the wire.
— On Wednesday night, I spoke with an individual who is involved heavily with the NCAA Tournament process and he told me that it is very likely Kentucky will see Villanova as its #2 seed in its bracket. With Duke and Purdue likely to be the “lowest 1 seed/highest 2 seed” and Villanova not likely to be put in Syracuse’s bracket, it will likely fall to Kentucky’s bracket if the current setup holds. So get to know the Wildcats….they could be the final step to a Final Four.
— We spent the evening in Morehead, Kentucky and all I can say is that it was strange. Beisner, Drew, Tomlin, Hubby and I were all in one place and found ourselves finishing the night in a random fraternity house with some scenes that…well, will live with us for a while. We are saving the stories for the podcast this weekend, but it was certainly the most random of the tour stop nights so far.
— Speaking of the CBS Road Trip, come and check out the blog and see what we have been up to. We have been getting a great response from the CBS folks and our numbers are very good. If you get a chance, please click and read and make comments if you can. This has been a great experience for KSR and the hits and comments only help us all for the future. So if you love us, or even if you just tolerate us, come take a look and chat.
We dont know where we are going because the snow has taken away Cornell and Syracuse. So like Big and Rich, we might be “coming to your city.” We will let you know. Go Cats and please crush the Vols!
