Cats beat the Cards, 69-62

134140716

In the longest game ever, the Cats finally defeated the Cards, 69-62. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist continues to be the heart and soul of this team, with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Anthony Davis took over in the second half and finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. As we expected, the officiating as absolutely miserable and robbed the game of any pace or rhythm.

Still, and win is a win, and this one definitely calls for a celebration.

Postgame show starts in one hour.

It’s louisville’s play that robs the game of any rhythm. On any given possession three fouls could be called on them. The refs were bad, but I’d say they missed about fifty fouls.

Has to be a morale victory for the cards to get within 20 pts after how badly we really beat them today. The refs were just awful but we thankfully were so much better than them that it didn’t matter

Greene and Luckie tried and could not control the outcome. But they tried and were able to control the point spread.
Luckie and Greene are little brothers to Curtis Shaw and both should be proud of maintaining their image.

The worst officiated game in the series that I can remember. Questionable calls on both sides, but UK players were getting mauled in the second have especially with the large lead. How can that not be a foul at the end of the game where Lamb got tackled? I would have gotten ejected if I was Coach Cal. Louisville fans know the only reason this game wasn’t a complete blowout was due to the abomination that was the officiating. We kicked your tail feathers and you know it!

We were damn lucky to win this game. TG for our rebounding because who would have given us a chance, at home, with Jones, Lamb, Teague, and Miller stinking it up on the offensive end. Their bench killed us as well and they shot a slightly better shooting %…believe they said Miller had 8 turnovers and think that MKG needs to have a “face to face” with him…Disappearious back big time.

Anthony Davis completely changes a game when he plays. Cal can’t sit him for an entire half. Davis can avoid fouls if he chooses to do so.

TJ brought the effort. 11 boards and 3 steals. Awesome. Finger clearly affecting his shooting still.

    Kidd-GillCHRIST is a man child.

Not Miller’s best performance. Teague had about 5 passes that were near break away dunks. He has to get better with the passing and he needs to start scoring more.

The people who keep telling Teague to score more are killing him and the team. His last job on this team is to score. He is a terrible shooter and finisher at the rim. He needs to use his quickness to get the shooters better shots. BBN loves their cats but gives really bad advise sometimes that these young kids hear and start to listen to.

My favourite part of it all is the fact that MKG nearly out rebounded the Tards all by himself. He ended up with 6 offensive rebounds to UofL’s 8 and he had 19 overall rebounds to UofL’s 28. That’s just amazing!

  57. gcat4496
    3:02 pm December 31, 2011 Permalink

Pitino’s style is to hack and grab and get you out of rythym. If the refs call every reach & hack they would whistle UL virtually every play. Pitino did that when he coached UK and it works. Eventually, the refs will let some of the hacking and reaching go until mentally the opponent breaks and they start the TOs. Davis and Gilcrest won this game. They were both outstanding. Jones’s hand is just not there so he still looks out of sync. Miller really struggled with 8 TOs. Teague had 4 TOs and shot something like 1 of 8. Can’t see him being a lottery pick. Doron Lamb had it going early but foul trouble and poor shooting and 4 TOs of his own did his performance in. Pitino wanted badly to make the final score respectable by pressing and pushing to get it under 10. IF he had the chance, he would beat us by 50 just to run it up.

I followed the live blog and Jones got hated on for most of the game. Sure his numbers didn’t look that good but his defense was excellent. He created alot of turnovers that were overlooked by the “fans”. His shooting wasn’t great but I still think that he is affected by his dislocated {and probably broken} pinky. I also saw no attitude issues with him unlike the IU game.

Really wishes some of you would realize there is more to basketball than offense. TJ, no he did not score much, but he played good defense, got rebounds, and hustled…which is more than what we’ve been able to say about him. As for Miller, not he doesnt have eye popping stats either, but look no more than Kyle Kuric’s stats to see how valuable Miller was. Miller took Kuric out of the game and so did everyone else who was on him. UK’s defense and hustle won this game. I also agree, how do you tackle a player and not call a foul? UL got lots of help from the refs and still couldnt win.

The officials did not rob the game of pace/continuity. UofL’s play did. Any time a team literally fouls on EVERY trip, it makes it difficult to officiate. The officiating is what it is. We have to be tougher with the basketball. Miller was way too tentative with it, and Teague was at times too. MKG and Davis (2nd half) performed like we need all the Cats to. MKG simply would not be denied.

57, you are dead on! All Lousi can do is hack and grab. They have no other shot against us except to make the game as u.g.l.y. as possible! So that’s what ‘he’ does. Will somebody please tell Miller and Teague to stop jumping to pass the ball??!! At least 10 UK turnovers can be linked to that–very bad fundamentals–and they will catch up to you in close, intense games like this one. That said–finally the refs gave up on calling fouls. Not a complaint, just a fact–they didn’t want to call one everytime down. They get de-senstized to the fouling and what looks like an obvious foul doesn’t look so bad after 40 minutes of hacking and grabbing. GBB!

How often does the team with the leading scorer in college basketball win the tournament? Exactly, it’s a team sport and everyone needs to contribute. Great hustle by the cats, the refs didn’t cause UL to lose but their execution of their responsibilities as officials was pathetic.

This team will only get better. D Miller deserves credit for shutting down Kuric, that balances out his poor ball handling skills. It was clear that UK is in a different class than UofL, but UK still one or two months from its peak potential. I would not want to play UK come March. Go Blue!

MKG played great. Nothing else to say.
Davis was solid in the minutes he played in first half and great in the second half
Jones was solid on defense and rebounding. Could have used some offense from him, but he didn’t hurt the offense either.
Lamb was solid on defense but ball handling was an issue
Teague had an average game. He needs to improve for us to win on the road at FL, Vandy, etc.
Miller had an atrocious game. As a senior e needs to step up in big games. His passing was horrible, and he was way to tentative on offense.
The bench contributed as needed, but no boost today.

People bashing TJ and other Cats STFU or go be a cards fan. Ur comments are only hurtful to UK and potential recruits/parents/players who read them. Im ashamed that people like you root for the same team as I do. TJ was a man on the boards and D today and contributed as much as anyone for this win. Did y’all not see the picture of his pinky? Not one of you could even play with an injury like that much less contribute in any meaningful way. Please STFU or go root for the Cards! Kids played great today despite piss poor officiating (both ways) that wouldn’t let the players play. Cats Win! Beat Cards! Great DAY!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!

Gotta give credit to Terrence Jones for playing hard and attitude. Davis always plays hard every minute. Miller plays hard but I wish he was more aggresive on offense. He could take over a game if he could ever get that killer attitude. This team will start clicking for 2 halves by the SEC tournament/game over. Pitino knew UK was not a great free throw shooting team leading up to the game and Pitino’s hack plan came back to bite him in rear! MKG needs nothing said/he does not take a play off period.

terrence came up with alot of big rebounds….im thankful for his effort cause thats the key….figuring out ways to be productive until he feels 100% again. get out of here with the RR comparisons…compare him to a your average sophmore; he’s a ton better than your average. him playing his worse = he could be the best glue guy in history and his best sets him up to be a top 5-6 pick in the draft. we beat the supposed #4 team in the country shooting 28% lol….enjoy the new year and be merry!!! 🙂
