Catch the Fever

Its that time of year again ladies and gentlemen. Oh yes, its the Miss USA Pageant tonight. Beginning at 7 pm, one of our favorite events here at KSR begins with Kindra Clark (pictured above), an EKU student and current Miss Kentucky, representing the Bluegrass in the big program. Mosley, the Turkey Hunter and I have been following this event over the last seven years or so and earlier today, held our KSR mock draft. Normally we do a live blog for the event, but Turkey Hunter has to work, Mosley is on the road and Drew Franklin is camping out for Buffett. So we are left with just me watching it live and I may or may not do it. Check back at 7 and if I am feeling the vibe, Miss USA Live Blog might be underway.

A couple of notes on yesterday….

Eloy Vargas is a good old man and is now a Cat. For those wondering about Eloy’s game, here is a summary. He is long, can run the floor, doesnt have great athleticism, but is ok and his offensive game has apparently improved since his year at Florida. I dont expect him to come in and be a star, but he can play, score points and give Calipari added depth and options at the PF spot. For all those reasons, it is a good pickup.

Jerrence Howard’s name comes up around UK again, this time not with Clyde but with Calipari. Most have expected Kenny Payne to get the assistant’s job but an Illinois paper reported yesterday that Howard had been contacted by UK about potential interest. Is this just a well-placed diversion or is Howard really a candidate. I dont want to be #wrongonpurpose, so I will just say that I do not know. I do know however that Howard is a rising up and comer in coaching circles and would be a good pick if he were to end up with the gig.

— It bears repeating here again how positive the John Wall getting a 3.5 GPA story really is. Wall quietly did hard work in the classroom and proved many doubters wrong who just assumed he would blow off school simply because he could. Good for him.

— The UK baseball team made the SEC playoffs today by getting a late sweep of LSU to make the tournament. They begin play next week and can give a run at the NCAA Tournament and College World Series with a good performance.

We will have more all day, potentially a Miss USA Live Blog, a night post later and coming tomorrow…the KSR Guide to the Kentucky Senate election…get your nerd fight gear ready.
