Cat chants across the world

iraq-fan-club

Like Chris Thomas mentioned earlier, Ashley Judd is one of Kentucky’s most famous fans. Controversial coal statements aside, you can’t deny that Ashley bleeds blue. To this day, everyone in the stands still gets excited when she attends a game (trust me, the Vandy fan sitting near us in Nashville nearly had a heart attack and spent the whole second half taking creepy pictures with his camera phone).

Plus, she manages to spread the Big Blue love wherever she goes, including, most recently, Croatia. While filming a movie, Ashley was treated to a Cat chant from some fellow UK fans. This prompted her to ask the following question via Twitter:

ashley-tweets2

The oddest place I’ve met Cat fans has to be Munich, Germany, at Oktoberfest. Needless to say, after three steins, my new friends and I had the whole table doing the Cat chant.

So, what is the most random place you’ve encountered Cat fans?

Oh, and by the way, @NOTMattJonesKSR, this is not appropriate:

on the Strip in Vegas, both times I encountered the same group over the weekend either me or them would start a C-A-T-S chant real loud.

Second would be up here at Purdue, though that might not be that random. I was just in a bar drinking a beer with my UK hat on when a guy came up to me and was pumped to see another UK fan.

Needless to say I love knowing that anytime away from the Bluegrass and encounter someone else with UK on they are automatically a new friend. GO BIG BLUE!

Watched the NCAA tourney games on an iPad with fellow UK fans we metin the hotel lobby at a little beach resort in the middle of nowhere in Mexico.

I had researched the Mexican cable system prior to the trip and thought it would be on regular cable. I was wrong and was in the middle of a serious “rainman-wapner” moment when my fellow UK fans showed up and saved my vacation.

ran into a couple of guys when i was hitchhiking a dirt road into the Southern Andes near Melipeuco, Chile. they weren’t necessarily fans of UK, but they were distant admirers and, for Chileans, knew quite a bit about Calipari, some players from the past, and the great tradition of the program.

I met a 9 year old boy while on a mission trip to Cayman Brac who had a UK shirt on exactly like the one I was wearing that day.

On another note, Ashley Judd might be “superfan” but she’s not nice to a lot of UK fans she meets. I met her in 2009 backstage at the Inaugural Concert at the Lincoln Memorial. I said, “Go Cats!” and she gave me the worst stink eye I’ve ever gotten. I was so upset about it, I talked to some friends that I knew had also met her in other places and they said the same thing. I came to the conclusion that she uses her “fandom” as a PR move. I haven’t paid to see a movie of her since.

#37, et al, When she was at UK at WRFL she was not a UK BB fan. This has all been after the fact, and is a way for her to get her face on national TV regularly. It benefits both the program and Ms. Judd, but don’t confuse her for a true blue fan.
