Calipari says in the next two years, former Cats will make up 10% of the NBA

John Calipari never stops. Today, he sat down with WKYT’s Rob Bromley to talk about a number of topics, including his former players returning to campus to help with the Pro Camps and the upcoming Alumni Game. Calipari said that at the rate UK is putting players in the league, in two years, former UK players could account for 10% of the NBA, which makes fielding an annual alumni game pretty easy. Check out the full interview above, courtesy of WKYT.

Other highlights:

— What did Cal make of Jeff Sheppard’s comments about the one-and-done culture at UK and how he feels closer to Rick Pitino? “It’s not on my radar right now. …I’m disappointed he feels that way, but it’s understandable. He didn’t play for me.”

Cal says he called four coaches on Kyle Wiltjer’s behalf and made it clear to Kyle that he was welcome to come back to UK, “but in the end, you’ve gotta roll with it.”

— This year was the last year UK will hold the satellite camps across the state. “I’ve been in enough cities and counties in the state to run for Governor,” Cal joked. Instead, he plans to expand the pro camp circuit, taking them on the road to Northern Kentucky and Louisville.

Be sure to check out the video in full. You can tell Cal’s feeling good.

Anyone else wish Rob Bromley would retire? He is almost as dead as the blue hairs at the bottom of Rupp Arena!

1.) Agreed, but at the same time there is something about him coming on air the first time a KY game is being locally televised that’s just like ‘Yessss it’s game time!’ Retirement is preferable though….

I love Rob Bromley! What’s with you people? You’d rather have some ESPN numbnut?

  6. 10%?

    10% = 45 players (30 teams, 15 spots/team).

Not sure we’ll be quite there in 2 years…

#1 what exactly makes that any different from day one in the career of Rob Bromley? He ain’t exactly Mr. Excitement. I wonder if Tipton gave him the Sheppard question.

6 – you can have 15 guys to practice, but only 12 for a game, so let’s go with needing 36 guys … right now we’re at 22 … I don’t think we’ll be there in 2 years either, but it’s not far off

Who cares? I prefer kids who stay longer than 9 months at UK. Wish Cal did too. I don’t care about the nba. Give me a Patterson Harrelson Miller or Chuck Hayes that develop into great players at uk
