Calipari remains undefeated at Rupp as Dominican team tops UK Legends, 106-88

Hijo de puta! What turned out to be one of the most explosive and raucous crowds Rupp Arena’s seen in a very long time was treated to an exhibition basketball game that had the competitiveness of something worth far more. In the end, the organization of the Dominican National team proved to be too much for the squad of Kentucky legends that was thrown together for Joe B. Hall and Denny Crum and they cruised to an easy 18-point victory. The Dominicans got big performances from a pair of former Cards – Francisco Garcia and Edgar Sosa – who combined for 59 points in their return to the villain role. DeMarcus Cousins led the good guys with 28.

More in a few minutes (and video after the jump!)…

Did people really think we were going to win? I mean I understand drinking the big blue kool-aid, but this was a group of guys who (at best) played with 2 other guys on the team prior, hadn’t played much all summer, and had not practiced any set offense/defense against a team that has been practicing & conditioning together for the last couple weeks. Had we had the same conditioning/practice my guess is the outcome would have been drastically different…

That was just sad. We assemble a dream team of UK players and lose to the friggin Dominicans. Not just lose, but get blown out. So would having Meeks on the Wall/Cousins team against WVA have made any difference in retrospect? Gawd that was awful. Hall can’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He missed so many opportunities to make adjustments LIKE GOING INSIDE instead of Wall jacking up threes he can’t make. This really is going to make the upcoming season suck. I know the team we put on the floor can’t even come close to the talent we just put out there tonight and they even lost to the FRIGGIN Dominicans! Jesus, it sucks right now!

In the real world…You can’t tell the refs that your players (Souza…can’t foul out). DR has a good team… What happens when the rules actually apply. What happens when an opponent actually has a chance to practice before you play? I like their chances, however; they need real world experience not a make believe realty where they are gauranteed to win.

The most important thing I got out of tonight is how well Cal prepared these guys in two weeks. He has long ago proved how well he prepares teams and in our Final Four run he proved himself a great bench coach. Sosa never looked this good under Fiftino. All you U of L trolls have nothing to crow about. Your coach sucks, your program sucks and you couldn’t even get 500 people in your Chicken Coop for a U of L “legends” (LOL!) game. If u look up dumb ass [email protected] head with line beards on google, you will notice the many results that come up with pics and descriptions of UL fans. And might i add. If it werent for the 3 that beat UK a few years ago, you all would practically disown Sosa. Go back to your moms basement and keep searching for jobs at fast food joints. This wasn’t supposed to be a ‘win’ for the big blue. This was Coach Cals way to pump up his Dominican Team and it worked.. Has nothing to do with UK/UL.. Cal has a mission to give his players some confidence and it worked… The Legends weren’t supposed to win the game.. If you would notice, Cousins putting on a show acting like he was pushing players around.. It was staged.. GREAT SHOW.. But it all helps in our recruiting players from the Dominican Republic to UK..(which produces a lot of great players). Tell me one kid in the D.R. right now that doesn’t want to play ball for Cal!!! Every kid does.. Cal is a freaking genius and what he did tonight worked well.. Great show!!!

All UK fans would’ve loved for the “pros” to “win” but it’s not possible to play to win when you’ve never practiced together, have no set plays, a short bench, etc. This wasn’t set up by Cal for the pros to win. It was put together, against some of the best players in the nation, to improve his Dominican team. He was hired to try to get them to qualify for the Olympics. It was an incredible celebration for UK fans, a fun night at Rupp and good experience for the Dominicans. I was right in the middle of it, in lower arena for the first time in my life and applaude Cal & the players involved! Here’s hoping it won’t be the last time! And, it was worth the price of admission to see Bogans to Wall!!!!! It brought the house down!

Went to the game. Great atmosphere, and great to see some of the older UK guys. Glad to see that the actual players don’t take this shit as seriously as the fans do. Both teams huddled up at the end and danced, with Boogie clearly dominating.

I like smack talking with UofL fans as much as the next guy, but this game was more about seeing some dunks and Cal getting his DR team ready than anything else. If any UofL fan derives satisfaction from this, they’re dumber than the average Card fan.

I had the sound low because most of the comments didn’t have anything to do with the game but at one time it sounded as if they were making a case for CAT fans to root of the DR team; that will be a tough sale with the loserville and flordia make up of the DR team.

It shouldn’t matter that the DR team has been together for a while if the pros would have come out and not tried to be show offs and just worrying about making the highlight play and instead come out and play like the talented pros that they are they wouldn’t have gotten embarrassed like that. Also it would have been nice if wall and them would have signed autographs after the game like meeks and Mohammed and prince all did. It just shows how much they care about the fans.

Sure was great to watch some of my favorites out on the Rupp floor again! Lots of fun – even if I had to watch on a fuzzy and choppy Internet stream. Thanks to WKYT – it was great for you to broadcast it.

I was a little disappointed that Rondo & Wall didn’t have something spectacular on a breakaway. Wonder if Boogie and Garcia really don’t like each other or if they, as King teammates, agreed beforehand to give the fans something to talk about. I doubt that we will see former UK players like this again because they should be playing with their pro teams. However, I guess if you scheduled an ex-UK player all-star game shortly after the NBA finals, then it would probably work.

A lot of you all are the reason we get such a bad name. It is ridiculous that any of you can sit there and say you’re upset that a group of former UK players lost in an exhibition game. If nothing else it was good just to see all the player introductions. Second to that was seeing Sosa get 9 fouls. 9, really?

The DR team was better. Garcia is really good. It was a lot of fun, regardless. Go Blue!

WOW, I am sure glad I had those former U of L players. Those UK pros are a bunch of no talent bums!

UK Pros obviously took a dive. Nothing else would explain what we witnessed last night.

Sorry I backed out on the Puerto Rico team, I figured out Louisville couldn’t field a PRO’s team. HA!

Anyone who is talking trash after this game, like the world has ended is crazy and needs to go be a cardinal fan. It was a freakin exhibition game, all i care about is cutting down nets and raising a NCAA championship banner. So everbody get over it, they will win tonight anyways. And hey at least Cal is still undefeated in RUPP!

The Pros want to play every year so I say we vote for a ten man roster for UK every year while UL fans vote for their ten man roster. There’s your annual state of Kentucky alumni game. One game is played in Rupp and one game is played in the Yum! Center. Boom. Louisville sucks again.
