Calipari Getting His Rap Game On

If you follow Coach Calipari’s twitter messages (and you know you do), then you are probably used to (a) inspirational tweets, (b) the mentioning of names of influential Kentuckians or (c) the revelation of interesting facts about our Coach. The most recent of these occurred yesterday when Calipari said he would be meeting with the rapper “Drake” today in New York City. Now I long ago stopped following the rap game intently. While I still listen to the latest Skee-Lo, Tag Team, Positive K and Doug E Fresh jams on my tape deck, I dont follow the latest and greatest hits from the Lil Wayne and Young Jeezys of the world (yes mom that last guy does go by the last name “Jeezy.”). But Calipari is apparently different than me. He knows what the kids like, he followed the hit series Degrassi and he doesnt think Weezy is simply a character from the Jefferson. Cal gets it and by “it” we mean rap.

So what will happen when Cal meets Drake? I was told by a fan of the site/younger lady friend that Drake is the newest hot rapper on the scene and the “next big thing.” If that is so, then I am glad Calipari met him. We need that cutting edge view. While Rick Pitino is out talking to Warren G and Billy Clyde’s favorite rapper is Toby Keith, Calipari is out there trying to get the latest and greatest. Could Drake come to a game and perform? Is it just a matter of time before Spencer and Heidi are the MCs for Midnight Madness? Are we approaching a day when Adam Lambert takes over for Rob Bromley and Artie Lange is the new PA voice at Rupp? Maybe so…Cal is hip, that much has been established and Drake is only the latest proof.

UK, Calipari and Drake…a team for the new millienium
