Cal wants you to show up

Kentucky will play its annual Freedom Hall game tomorrow night against Arkansas Little Rock, and Coach Cal just wants you to show up. He told the media today that UK would like to continue the tradition of playing in Da Ville, but fans need to fill the place. The former birdhouse didn’t sell out last season for the game against Notre Dame and tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s game.

The Freedom Hall game could be in jeopardy if the turnout doesn’t improve. Calipari said 24,000 would be at the same game if it were in Rupp Arena.

Caroline will be by shortly with more from today’s practice.

Go Cats.

Make the Freedom Hall game part of the season package like most of the other crudy games. The only reason the ND game didn’t sell out was because the tix prices were way too high when all the other Big East/SEC challange games were much cheaper.

Calipari needs to know that the Freedom Hall ticket office IS NOT OPEN. I went to Freedom Hall at 11:00 this morning and it was closed. How do they expect to fill the place when the ONLY way you can purchase tickets is to order then through Ticketmaster?

Tickets are $35, but through Ticketmaster they are $44 with fees… and that is for upper level endzone. Not exactly a great price for the worst seats in the building.

i aint lookin for many fastbreak passes and baskets…we only had 3 against mighty chattanooga out of 30 def rebounds and 2 out of 37 against looavul…kinda like last year.

i’m taking the coaches advice and not making a big deal out of this game. its just another game and doesn’t mean anything. That’s what he said.. so i think we should just not worry about the games anymore. see how that works for him.

Yea, I have to agree that any lack of ticket sales is on Calipari, not on the fans.

He knows this, cupcakes aren’t meant to be played, they are meant to be eaten (by basketball coaches).

You are responsible for the schedule. Want to give the fans what they want to see, don’t be reluctant to schedule a tougher opponent.

Stat padding and temporary team ego coddling might make for something but it’s not want fans want.

BTW, I thought we were making too big a deal out of Louisville, Cal? Get down and give me 20.

#13…. That’s just stupid to say. Let me know how that world out for you.

#7…. You think they’re going to play Unc or Iu in Louisville? Why on earth would you take away home field advantage for a big game. Hey, we have one of the best venues in cbb lets go play a big game elsewhere. Just be happy they play one game there.

  17. Calipari'sInYourEar

The other part of the ticket sales goes on Barnhart. Overcharging is rampant.

But then when you try to overcharge for cupcakes… well, that’s just greed, and no one likes a greedy use douche bag collector.

    6. Well unfortunately not everyone knows that you can purchase UK tickets at Krogers. I’m assuming since you made that comment that there are no additional fees… just the price of the ticket when purchased at Krogers??

Besides why is it an excuse WHEN I ACTUALLY TOOK TIME OUT OF MY DAY to go to Freedom Hall to get tickets?? Idiot.

My response to Calipari is to start scheduling a decent opponent in Louisville. UK used to play IU, Notre Dame, and has even played a conference game or two in Freedom Hall. It’s absurd to ask fans to pony up premium dollars for an opponent that doesn’t belong on the same court.

Man y’alluh some [email protected]$$ mofoze. If you need to have your UK spoon fed to you at $35 pops,
you get what you deserve. I cannot believe y’alluh complainin’ over this.

As far as not knowing T’master is at Kroger, apparently you don’t listen to KSR very well
and haven’t been either 1.) A Cats fan very long or 2.) A Kentuckian for very long.

Either way, welcome to the Bandwagon. You’ll toughen up over time, and realize that
seeing a UK team play hoops is worth every cent, and at $45 is money well spent.

    22. Bandwagon? Please. Go f yourself. You can’t come close to me as a UK fan. It has nothing to do with KNOWING that Ticketmaster is at Krogers. I thought you meant paying face value at Krogers. No, I’m not willing to pay $44 when $9 of that goes to ticketmaster for upper level endzone. Sorry, has nothing to do with being cheap. We’re season ticket holders paying K-fund donatons. Just the principle. So go f off. Kentucky could use less fans like you.

I’m not paying 45 bucks for a ticket against Arkansas little rock, if you expect a sell out for a game like this then be sensible and drop the price.

  28. Robshairgel

That’s because those folks in Lexington have season tickets and we get a crappy team come in here, play a top twenty team here and see the crowd. If that doesn’t improve, then take the game away, oh and have open practice like the old days!

  29. guest
    3:53 pm January 2, 2012 Permalink

I’m not calling anyone out with the following – I promise. There are a lot of UK fans that don’t live near Lexington or Louisville. We hear about UK’s fanbase being statewide / nationwide / and worldwide, and that’s true. Some of us have to travel over four hours each way and pay for a hotel and food. And that can only occur after finding a weekend to get away. If I want to go to a game, it’ll cost me between $400 and $500. I know a high price for UA-LR in Freedom Hall is a little steep, but you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Go BBN!

Went last year, they use to always play ND in Louisville. there is not a bad seat in that place. However, I am not going tomorrow night. If Cal wants us to fill the seats to continue playing in Lexington West, then they need to schedule a team worth seeing.

If we can’t get a big name opponent in Freedom Hall then i’d like to see UK versus a rotation of WKU, Morehead, Murray, or EKU. It would generate more local excitement than a UALR.

Calapari is full of crap on this one…no way Rupp sells out at $45 dollars for ALR. People like Clay and Calapari fail to mention that the game is not part of a season ticket package. Rupp wouldn’t get 24,000 to half the games if the were ala carte

Went to IU, going to UT game in knoxville, neither ticket cost as much as a nosebleed for this one, and this is a God-awful oppent, just can’t pay that much, sorry. They need to make 5-10 dollar tix for the top several rows, then you get people in the door to buy crap and pay to park. I don’t know why all sports teams can’t figure that out.

I see all of your pain about the prices and the played team but i’ll be traveling from japan to germany to my next duty location and only am able to see one game en route. im actually going out of my way to see this game and its unfortunately against Tenn on jan 31. I’m just curious about most of the people complaining about the prices do you even go to rupp? i know some of you do and ok, but for those of you who just like to complain, come on nothing is going to change, it is either going to go away or people are going to fill it up. The louisville game really just seems like a promo thing and for the lazy people that dont want to travel the 90 min to lex. I used to travel 2 hours to go when i did live in ky. Anyway its not about me or traveling its about cheering on your team and the love u have for your team….go CATS!
