Cal on Pitino: “I’m out of here because they’ll say I said it”

With the 1996 National Championship team in town, there’s a lot of reminiscing going on about old times, old games, and yes, one certain old coach. According to KY Forward’s Jon Hale, Cal couldn’t help but get in a subtle dig at one Mr. Rick Pitino:

Keep in mind where Cal stood in ’96 opposite of the team he just dined with.

We should just go ahead and give Cal credit for that championship too. #CoachCal #BBN #DickieV

Is that guy a good journalist? Seems to me he was scratching and clawing to report something that would get him noticed … at Cal’s expense. Sounded like Cal was trying to avoid giving him something negative to report and he spun it negative anyway. Or was Cal knowingly saying that to a reporter and hoping that he would spin it in a negative manner? I read the quote and thought Cal was just worried about covering his own bupkis.
