Cal Offers Derrick Jones

DerrickJones

Add one more player to the list of Top 15 in ’15 with an offer from UK.  Cal’s extended a scholarship to 2015 wing Derrick Jones, currently 16th overall on ESPN, and 11th on Rivals.  He got his golden ticket last night, and it’s apparently been something he’s been wanting for quite a while.

He mentioned to SNY.tv that he was looking forward to showing Calipari just what he was capable of: “It would be great so I can show him and get that offer.”  Jones currently has six or so teams on his list, which of course includes Kentucky, but the main competition for the Philly wing at this point is probably Syracuse.  According to Derrick’s father, “He’s leaning toward Syracuse and he would love to go to Kentucky.  He loves Kentucky and he loves Syracuse.  We’ve been talking about Syracuse the most.”  Then again, that was reported nearly three months ago, so it’s hard to say where he’s at right now.  Jones is a long, athletic wing that Boeheim certainly covets for his patented 2-3 zone, which relies on builds like Derrick’s to fuel turnovers and poor shots.  Then again, Cal does have some experience recruiting against Syracuse (Exhibit A), and he’s no stranger to 6’7″ small forwards, either.  Miller, Liggins, MKG, and Poythress all fit that same build in very different ways, so Cal can point to those guys and say, “Whatever you’re good at, I’ll find a way to use you.”  It should be interesting to see how quickly Kentucky can catch up to the headstart that Syracuse has gotten.  Something to keep an eye on going forward.  And speaking of keeping an eye on things, how about some dunks from Mr. Jones himself?  I know how much we all love the dunk shot, so here ya go:

Good thing Cal has the approval of “Parker”, probably why he was holding off on the offer

whatever you are good at, I’ll find a way to use you? Why not just teach me to be good at everythng instead of rolling the ball out on the floor while we wait to get drafted on our ‘potential’….

7 – You’re right. I mean, Shaqs coach who never taught the big man proper 3pt shot mechanics, failed him. The coach who focused on ray Allen’s perfect stroke instead of teaching him how to be a force in the paint, failed him. I can’t believe Cal only used Anthony Davis as a shot blocker instead of helping him expand his range as a jump shooter- wait….

The moral: don’t be an idiot troll sheep.
