In a tidbit of news that will shake up the SEC for years to come, ESPN announced that it has purchased the rights to all SEC broadcasts not already taken by CBS. What does that mean? It means Raycom sports is gone and now ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will house all SEC football outside of the games on CBS. As for basketball, it will set a regional network that will provide syndication to local channels, similar to the way Raycom does it.
And what did ESPN pay for this…..2.25 billion over 15 years….a staggering amount! Gone is the SEC channel proposal and the regional network telecasts with guys like our friend Barry Booker.
Important news for the future of the SEC and an influx of unprecedented revenue. Thus this is the last year of Dave, Dave and Dave. May their memory live on forever….
