Another day, another rumor shot down. UK Spokesman Dewayne Peevy tells KSR that “UK has not offered the football job to anyone.” So there you go…Butch Jones, nor anyone else, has an offer from UK.

Funny how when I read that Kentucky has not offered the football job, the first thing I think is Kentucky HAS offered the football job.
Was this an actual “report” by the Bearcat Lair staff or a message board post? If it was the latter that is some dirty pool just for some Sunday afternoon page views, Matt.
I heard Norv Furner has been offered. Now that this is out there why don’t you report it as a report on KSR, a “USA Today Sports Digital Properties” site, to give it some heft.

I’m with ya #7, maybe Barnhart leaked this on purpose to see the reactions of some of the UK fans and will do this with every possible coach until he gets the response he wants.

For a school trying to find a coach for one of the worst jobs in college football, fans who post here sure are choosey and very unrealistic. We should be happy if any poor soul agrees to risk his career on this job.

Petrino is scum. Please stop publicly hoping for him to be hired. You are embarrassing all of us. No one of any account is going to hire Petrino, and neither would you if you were in a position of authority. He will not land an SEC job.
I’ll give you a name that would love to see Petrino come to UK instead of Auburn…..Nick Saban. #14 we have one thing for sure that is going for us and that is we’re still in the SEC, at least for right now but Barnhart’s not done with us yet.

As an Auburn alum and a Kentucky fan, I have followed both programs for a long time now. Auburn’s problems this year have stemmed from no productivity at the QB position and an OC who had one of the worst offenses in the FBS at Temple and looked totally clueless this year. Chizik is a hell of a motivator, a phenomenal recruiter (check the stats on his recruiting classes if you don’t believe me), and with the right staff around him could definitely turn UK into a competitor in the SEC imo.

#23 you’re right on! I think if Petrino was hired you would see record sales of season tickets. Barnhart has to make Petrino pass on the job or he’s not doing his job. Matt Jones said on his call-in show that in 40 years of coaching Rich Brooks hated one guy(Bobby Petrino) Brooks record against Petrino…0-4. I bet he loves Steve Kragthorpe!
FFS, Matt, Peevy/UK denying a made offer is, for all intents and purposes, meaningless. They’ll deny this kind of thing right up until they announce him as the new coach. You should know better than to take what an athletic’s office says about coaching searches at face value. We may or may not have offered Butch Jones, but Peevy denying it doesn’t mean anything one way or the other.
Petrino is objectively scum. He used the University of Arkansas coffers as his personal slush fund. It was practically theft! Any person in any occupation would have a hard time getting a job in his situation. Petrino isn’t any different. He can whine and bellyache all he wants, but he won’t land an SEC job. Nor any other job at a reputable institution.
He will not take the UK job. Barnhart is a dream killer.

Let’s be real, UK will have to get a mediocre candidate, or a proven winner who is damaged goods. Our facilities and tradition is not going to be a strong selling point. So either way, I think that a portion of the fan base is not going to be pleased with Barnhardt’s choice.
I hope UK will make a decision soon.
This is how its all going to work out, Gruden to UT, Strong to Ark, and Petrino to Auburn, or UL, we will continue to be sh!t, thanks to Mitch, because he will hire a retread or another Dooley(probaly Dykes)then hopefully he will be fired.
Let’s have some perspective. A much better school than UK is going to hire Charlie Strong. Butch Jones is at worst Charlie Strong’s equal, and is probably better than Strong when you consider that Strong’s success is built largely on the Bridgewater recruiting fluke (no scholarships at LSU plus coaching changes at Miami, Florida, and Fla State at the same time) that will never be repeated. This would be the equivalent of UK hiring Strong away from Louisville but without the rivalry implications.
Talked to Larry Vaught yesterday and he said with barn hart running the sarch look for a hire that will underwhelm all of us.

#34 I know it would, and talk about selling season tickets! It’s a no lose situation. If Petrino was hired and did leave if a job came open that he wanted more you can bet the UK job would be a lot more attractive after he left than one of these guys struggling to win in one of these smaller conferences would leave it in if they floundered around for a couple of years then was fired.
Why doesn’t everyone chill till there is something official. Some uk fans amaze me!!! Yeah uk football has been down a couple of seasons but shit we went to 4 or 5 straight bowl games. But now that we are down people say “Oh we suck we never win and uk football is shit!”. 2. Butch “No Resume” Jones is a desperate choice. Another no resume guy. When this is all said and done, let’s hope we don’t get sold dirt like it’s gold.
My god, you watched Tennessee do this with Dooley several years ago (hire a no resume coach) and you just laughed. I have Now we’re being led to the butcher shop with this possible poor method of hit and miss football selection?

UK football fans deserve more than 3 suck seasons. We fund a huge portion of the athletic department’s budget. I disagree that the fans should be qiet that’s what we’ve done for years and look where we are now. UK fans need to make all the noise we can so we don’t end up with a no name coach that cannot cut it in the SEC. I for one hope that hire isn’t Butch Jones as he will not bring in recruits that we need. We better go big and spend some major $$$ otherwise the fan base will stay home.
I agree with #36. We’re not going to know anything until at least after the UT game, maybe the SEC championship game. If Barnhart said he wouldn’t mind making UK’s coach the highest paid in the country I wouldn’t think it would be Jones, Dykes or some unknown name. I would think he’d go after a name like Peterson at Boise St. or the head coach at Standford, TCU, Okla.St. or Clemson. Could be some high profile assistant like Smart at Ala., Helfrich at Oregon or Kingsbury at Tex.A&M.
Why does this guy feel like BCG all over again? Butch Jones would be a disastrous hire if we have any aspirations of building a winning program. If you want someone who will win 1-2 games a year in the SEC with an overall 5-6 record, then Butch is your man; look up his record, and how he has underperformed against weak competition. If you want to take the next step forward towards respectability on the gridiron, then you shoot higher than Butch F’n Jones.

All Butch Jones people…..we are so impressed with 3 points at home against Rutgers, which got pounded by Kent St. Wow. And this was for BCS consideration. Yeah, let’s bring him to the SEC. Makes perfect sense.

Petrino or bust. Fans need to let Mitch know. If Mitch was a decent AD, he’d get him, and all the facility upgrades the program needs. Get those two things done and your recruiting problem is solved.

Hire Petrino a proven winner
A school will never admit that they have publically offered a job to a coaching candidate because the coach may turn them down. They will never admit to an offer until an offer is accepted. It was rumored that hen Rich Brooks was hired, 3 ofers went out to candidates Mike Riley, Todd Graham an Norm Chow. All 3 turned down UK before they hied Brooks.
Petrino is going to UT and commence to whipping our arses on a regular basis!!
