Bullet Dodged?

shabazz

SNY.TV reports that Shabazz Muhammed is ineligible for UCLA’s trip to China as the school investigates the possibility that he took illegal benefits during his recruitment. No word on how this will effect his eligibility for the actual season, but it does mean that there will at least be questions and investigations. That is never good. Maybe missing out on this one was the best thing for UK after all…

This does not bode well for Kentucky. In 2011-12, John Calipari cheated and won a championship. Now it appears other schools are catching up to him with the recent Shabazz Muhammad news. How can Coach Cal compete when he’s being out cheated by other coaches? This, combined with the fact that he is often out coached by coaches of teams UK beats.

Okay his choice came down too Whom three schools..It was said in the end it was between Ucla and UK, well let’s not kid ourselves with this it was a bidding war. And this will come out do you think Ucla is going to just say they were the only school to offer playola. It’s going to get messy with this kid.Don’t kid yourselves.

Yeah okay 18, UCLA is going to come out and say “We outbid UK, they were bidding too.” and then they will prove it. I’m so worried I probably won’t sleep tonight. Geez.

I do not think the issue with Shabazz is being paid by a University. It was his involvement with a AAU coach and some financial advisor who were related. This story is actually pretty old. He will sit out some time kind of like Selby and have to pay back some money. If he was going to be ineligible for the whole season he would have probably choose UK. Look at how well it did for Enes.

Cal doesn’t have to offer money and Sandy Bell would NEVER allow it to happen. 15, ur nuts for thinkin we needed the kid. We all knew that his recruitment had dirty players and that this very scenario could happen. Do you really think we need this kinda publicity at UK again? No. Same thing is happening with Rodney Purvis right now making me glad Cal stopped recruiting him. We have Alex Poythress, we don’t need Muhammed. Yeah he would have been a great player, but didn’t he get pissed off when Noel got ranked over him? I just don’t see him as the team player Cal has been gettin on campus.

20 is right, there were talks of this before and even then it was said to be old news. But it’s not goin away so must be something to it.

The payment of going to UK under CAL is signing an NBA contract. In three years he has had:

    – 14 players drafted by an NBA team
    – 10 players picked in the first round
    – 8 players who were one and done

When you send people to the league that quickly, it is very easy to recruit.

Actually UK wouldn’t pay money, and Shabazz kept holding out and waiting, but none came. He wanted to come to UK, but his dad is the one that wanted the money and steered him to UCLA. It will all come out, just wait and see.

Zags also has that Bennett (and Birch) won’t be with UNLV for their foreign trip. I thought the Bennett stuff had been cleared up? Or is he just finishing classes.

And whatever happened with the Torian Graham rumors?

    24) I was curious if there was maybe some money involved related to future shoe contracts.

It is amazing to me that ESPN, SI, and Rivals have failed to mention this story at all. Guarantee if Shabazz had signed with UK we would have had round the clock coverage on it.

He will sit out half a dozen meaningless games at the beginning of the season then all will be right in the NCAA’s mind and he will start play in December without penalty. I have foreseen it.

Really? First KSR thinks MJ not giving his bum HS coach is news and now saying the #1 recruit at the time is being investigated? Had he commited to us, this would be totally bogus? All #1 recruits have this around them. What happened to wishing everyone that “UK is not right for everyone” well?

Don’t we all remember his sister is a professional tennis player sponsored by Addidas? Don’t you think Addidas would want a “potential” #1 draft pick to be wearing their shoes a year from now, instead of going to UK a nike school or UNC a Nike school? So who’s to say this isn’t something simply of Addidas making sure that family stays in Addidas? Maybe Addidas cut his family a check or bought them things to keep it that way… I’m definitely leaning towards this is from a company one way or another and not something given from UCLA. Don’t like UCLA but Addidas is in the business of making money, they don’t want a prime prospect for advertising to be wearing Nike and have a chance to be wooed by Nike at another school. My bet, Addidas money found in Shabazz pockets.

The NCAA announced it was investigating Shabazz and Nerlens Noel back in May, so this is not exactly breaking news. And you may want to hold up on that gloating until we know for a fact that Nerlens has been cleared.

ROFLMAO at people saying Sandy Bell would never allow anything like that to happen. In order to believe UK’s story about Enis Kanter, the Kanter family had to withhold knowledge of a certain amount of money from UK or else UK would have never signed him. That’s why Cal’s story about him changed when Kanter’s old team produced the full report. If the Kanters could have hidden PAYROLL money from Cal and Bell, why cant a player hide under-the-table money? When we first signed Enis, the story was “he only accepted X expenses” because that’s what the Kanters told Cal, but then during the appeals, Cal and Bell’s story changed to say “yeah, he took more than that, but it doesnt matter for these reasons.” But they clearly had to change their story because the total amount of payments to Enis were more than UK first reported.

Of course the alternative would be that Cal and Sandy were simply lying all along, but that can’t be true.

The people in this state have absolutely ZERO sense of self awareness. Here they are licking themselves all over because Julius Peppers had crappy grades and Shabazz Muhammad is dirty as if every player who ever committed to UK was a cross between Brandon Knight and Tim Tebow. Every time you read one of these stories about another hooligan player who screws up another program, you should breath a sigh of relief. Because these kids don’t give two craps about the schools where they play between AAU and the NBA. They dont care what kind of fires they set on their way out of town.

I’ve heard from numerous sources that if Kentucky had an early season international trip like UCLA does– that Nerlens Noel would still not be eligible. His official visits to Lexington and Georgetown were both paid for by someone, on someones credit card. From what I’ve heard the NCAA is still investigating. It’s not an academic issue, but rather an improper benefits issue. Sucks

It is reality to see this this day time, get used to it. If he sets several games it was worth it, if he’s taken more than the NCAA deemed appropriate then it’s to the Pros for him. UCLA would like to set him sit a few games than sit the entire year, by then his interest will be the NBA.
Kentucky would have taken him, bottom line; heck I would have taken him as well and hope the NCAA wouldn’t look at him too hard. It’s better to take a top prospect and hope for the best than not to take him.
    Just saying

    37) Why would someone have to pay for his official visits with a credit card? I’m pretty sure an official visit is paid for by the university.
