Bud Dupree considered one of the SEC’s top three defensive ends

Alvin Bud Dupree

Can you believe football season’s only a little over a month away? Popular SEC blog Saturday Down South continues their preseason position rankings this morning by taking a look at the league’s defensive ends. Coming in at number three, behind Jadeveon Clowney and Chris Smith? UK’s very own Alvin “Bud” Dupree. Here’s what Jon Cooper had to say about Dupree, who he says is a player SEC fans will get to know this season:

3. Alvin ‘Bud’ Dupree, Kentucky

Bud Dupree can play linebacker or defensive end, but Mark Stoops moved Dupree back to end. At 6-4, 250 pounds, Dupree is a big-time athletic specimen few know about. He totaled 91 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks as a sophomore, and he should turn in a better year under Stoops

Something tells me Za’Darius Smith will be on this list by the end of the season, too.

Last semester I was in the Starbucks at Commons on south campus, and I was standing by the glass double-doors in front of the stairs to the cafeteria. Well, out of the corner of my eye I saw multiple colossal figures coming up the stairs, and when I turned I immediately recognized ZaDarius Smith (Bud Dupree was with him). I was like “Uh, are you ZaDarius?” rofl

He was pretty pleasant and shook my hand, but dear God, he and Bud are massive in person. I’m 6′ and about 165-170 lbs, and they made me feel like a little kid.

There is some talent on this team. We aren’t deep but we do have some decent kids. I think a lot of last years struggles were due to the lack of coaching acumen. I know Stoops has never been a head coach, but he seems like he’s got his sh*t together. Excited to see how this coaching staff uses these kids. We still may only win 3-4 games due to the ridiculous schedule; but I think they’ll be immensely more competitive than they were last year. #STOOPS

Shows how much attention I paid to football last season, had no idea Dupree had that good of a year.

He had a huge sack as a freshman (I think) against TN when UK finally broke the streak. The way he barreled through the line and took Bray down was a thing of beauty.
