BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: SEC East Recruiting Analysis

A lot of people will argue that recruiting rankings don’t matter because guys like Chris Lofton or Courtney Lee can slip through the cracks and become stars in the college game.  I would argue those people are stupid.  Because recruiting rankings are almost always spot-on.  Over the last 4 years, the top 5 players in each class were (scout.com): Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Kevin Durant, Brandon Wright, Greg Oden, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Kyle Singler, Michael Beasley, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holliday, Demar Derozan, Samardo Samuels, BJ Mullens, John Wall, Avery Bradley, Lance Stephenson, John Henson, and Derrick Favors.  Out of those 20 players, 13 players have already been drafted in the 1st round of the NBA Draft, Wall and Favors will soon be 1st round picks, and Bradley, Singler, and Henson will likely be 1st round picks in the future.  That’s 18 players out of 20.  I think the recruiting experts know what it going on.  Point being, it’s worth looking at which teams in the SEC East have the best OVERALL rosters coming into the 2010-11 season.
