Could Kentucky find itself here at some point this season?
I only ask the question above to humor myself, because it’s too early in the season to know, and it doesn’t seem likely at this point. But, let me throw this around, and then tell me what you think. I would argue there are 9 teams that Kentucky WILL NOT beat more than 1 out of 10 times (if ever), and thus UK is just not as good as. Those teams are:
There are 11 teams that I would never pick Kentucky against ON THE ROAD but would give them a fighter’s chance at home:
That’s 20 teams that I would never rationalize putting Kentucky ahead of this season. But here are the other teams in the Top 25 currently and on the fringes of the Top 25. Tell me how you feel about Kentucky against these teams:
Air Force (26th)
Now, from what I have seen from this team so far, albeit against poor competition, and what I have seen from each of these teams listed above, I think Kentucky could compete against ALL of these teams. Kentucky has the talent and depth, not to mention pure ability at the skill positions to win against every team listed right above. So, let me simply ask again: IS IT TOO MUCH TO RATIONALIZE THAT THIS KENTUCKY TEAM IS ONE OF THE NATION’S 25 BEST?
I don’t know what it is but I have seriously jumped on board with this year’s team. They have the pieces to POTENTIALLY take the next step in UK’s program. I am talking moving past the Andre Woodson years and into a different level. New Years Day level. They have great skill players, a solid, improving quarterback, and a new energy with Joker Phillips. If the defense can hold up, and I think it can, a win Saturday is not out of the question. And even if that doesn’t happen, it is not an unrealistic goal to break the Top 25 before the end of the season. Lose to Florida, then beat Ole Miss and Auburn, and you get close. Beat South Carolina, and you are in.
For the first time in 3 years, I don’t care when basketball season starts. We are in football season, and we have a team to be proud of. Get on board Cats fans.
