After watching the entire South Carolina-Alabama last Saturday, I can say with complete certainty that Gamecocks WR Alshon Jeffery was the BEST player on the field. A field that included the Heisman Trophy winner, among other future 1st round NFL draft picks. Alabama had NOBODY that could contain Jeffery, leading to his 2 touchdown catches, as well as one of the better catches this season that esentially clinched the game.
And I think we can safely say that Kentucky has nobody in our defensive secondary with the talent of Alabama. So, how Kentucky will defend Jeffery has to be a concern for Steve Brown. But, when you look at how Kentucky has defended it’s opponents #1 receivers this year, you have some reason to be encouraged on Saturday.
Doug Beaumont (Louisville): 3 receptions, 40 yards, 0 TD
Jack Doyle (Western Kentucky): 1 reception, 8 yards, 0 TD
Jeremy LaFrance (Akron): 0 receptions, 0 yards, 0 TD
Deounte Thompson (Florida): 5 receptions, 86 yards, 0 TD
Markeith Summers (Ole Miss): 1 reception, 7 yards, 0 TD
Darvin Adams (Auburn): 5 receptions, 101 yards, 0 TD
COMBINED (6 games): 15 receptions, 242 yards, 0 TD
Now, how Kentucky will stop Marcus Lattimore may be another question.
