Bryan the Intern’s Picks to Click

Yesterday final of the KSR Modern Love Tournament proved that despite playing his last game over 16 years ago, Jamal Mashburn’s impact still resonate throughout the Big Blue Nation.  And for his triumphant victory, Mashburn will receive that lovely trophy above.  Congrats to Jamal, and for everyone who whined and moaned about Chuck Hayes not being in the final, maybe you should have actually voted for him in his matchup with Tayshaun.

Final Results
(1) Jamal Mashburn: 129
(2) Tayshaun Prince: 57

OK, now that we are done with the KSR Modern BBall Player Love Tournament, may as well start up another tournament, right?  I like these because it allows you to have a nice spirited debate and have your voice heard during the boring months of the summer.  Now that we have found out the most loved player, lets take a look at the greatest “plays” in UK history.  Obviously, I don’t know about great plays before 1970, so you won’t see many of those here, but I did the best I can.  This will only be a 16-play tournament.

Now, for today, you actually have two tasks: voting for today’s game and also letting me know which shots I am missing.  I have left open 2 spots as “wildcards” for plays and moments that I may have missed.  Those two spots will fill out the 15 and 16 seeds.  As for today’s matchups, here is what you need to vote for:

(8) James Lee’s dunk in title game clinches title over Duke (1978)
vs
(9)
Erik Daniels tip-in against Mississippi St. keeps SEC winning streak going (2004)

(7)Jeff Brassow tip-in against Arizona wins Maui Invitational (1993)
vs
(10)
Patrick Sparks 3 free throws beat Louisville (2004)

(6) Patrick Sparks last second 3 sends Elite Eight game into overtime (2005)
vs
(11)
Jim Master buzzer-beater send “Dream Game” into overtime (1983)

(5)Dirk Minnefield defies gravity during dunk against Mississippi St. (1982)
vs
(12)
Walter McCarty 3-pointer caps comeback against LSU (1994)

Other plays that are IN tournament (seeds will be released tomorrow)
Tony Delk 3 and foul against Syracuse clinches 1996 title
Sean Woods shot against Duke in 1992
Prince’s final 3 against UNC in 2002
Scott Padgett 3 against Duke in 1998 gives UK lead
Ralph Beard hits 52-footer at buzzer to beat Tennessee in 1948
Cedric Jenkins tip-in beats Louisville in 1987

-As someone who is an avid golfer and has a hole-in-one on my resume, I can tell you that it happens when you least expect it.  In my case, I have probably hit 150 tee shots on Par 3’s better than the shot I hit on my hole in one (which bounced once and into the hole).  I am willing to bet Leif Olsen was thinking the same thing last weekend, when he had one of the coolest holes-in-one I have ever seen.

-Now a second man is claiming that Colts WR Marvin Harrison shot him.  My math may be fuzzy, but the going rate on athletes charged with 2 counts of attempted murder is….45 days prisonand 2-year suspension of gun license…give or take 5 days.

-Mexico 5, USA 0, on US soil.  What happened?
