1. BTI RANT OF THE DAY: I have a feeling I am in the minority here, but I think quite possibly the most overrated player in the NBA is Ray Allen. In the playoffs, Allen is averaging 20.3 PPG. This seems like a very big number. But, if you take away his 51-point game against Chicago, Allen is averaging 14.9 PPG. There are 25 players that are averaging over 14.9 PPG in the playoffs this year. Allen has scored 12 or less points in 5 of the Celtics 11 games, nearly every other game. And you might say, it’s not all about scoring. But in Ray Allen’s case, IT IS ALL ABOUT SCORING. Ray Allen is entirely a one-dimesional player. He doesn’t add anything on defense, doesn’t rebound the ball, is not a great passer. Basically, if his shot is off, he is useless to your team. And my BIGGEST contention with Allen is that he has been the #1 option on whatever team he has played on nearly his entire career. Yet, it took him being the 3rd option on last year’s Celtics for him to win a title. His teams in Milwaukee and Seattle NEVER even came close to a title. And look at this year: he is option 1B for Boston, and they are struggling. Ray Allen is wildly overrated! Rant over.
2. Interesting story happening right now in horse racing. Rachel Alexandra, the horse who won the Kentucky Oaks, and who I said would have won the Derby, is trying to get entered into the Preaknessthis weekend. Unfortunately, the horse was not registered for the Triple Crown races, meaning if 14 horses enter the Preakness, the filly is OUT. Pretty straightforward, right? Well, the story has taken a turn now, as Preakness officials estimated 13 horses would enter, opening up a spot for Rachel Alexandra. Now, Mine That Bird’s owner is thinking about registering ANOTHER horse into the race, blocking the filly. He says it’s “professional, not personal”. My question to you is: Do you think this is WRONG or fair game? By the way, the Preakness odds-maker has said if the filly enters the race, she will be the betting favorite.
3. If this guy above (who is somehow a Turkish pro basketball player) marries, he will recieve $100-million dollars. With only one stipulation: He must stay married for 5 years. I think I could stay married to Joan Rivers for 5 years if $100-million was waiting at the end.
4. and 5. What is going on with people bashing Cleveland right now??? Earlier this week, I found two people who created “promotional” videos about Cleveland, basically outlining why it sucks. And now, two more great pieces of video have come out that poke a little fun at Lebrontown. First, an Atlanta journalist wrote that despite the fact the Hawks are going to get swept by the Cavs, at least he doesnt have to live in Cleveland. That led a Cleveland TV anchor to offer to fight the guy on live TV. Second, come this recently released video which shows how things went down in the Cavs huddle the night Jordan hit the shot over Ehlo:
