Happy to see Tubby get a big win last night, and it being against Indiana made it even better. Speaking of Indiana, I cannot find any info online about this Big Ball happening March 8th in Evansville…I wish The Truth would go and we could send Fake Nate to spy on him! It’s now been at least 409 days since Matt first mentioned the Uncensored Billy Gillispie Podcast.

I don’t understand the Rondo hate from UK fans. Never have, never will. Guy shows up to high schools to teach math, at community events to interact with the kids, and gives back to those in need with gifts in a way that might not even qualify as a tax-writeoff (its b/c of the tax benefits that a lot of these guys set up their own foundation then hire their family to work it)…but Rajon does these good things and people still hate on him. I don’t get it.

Instead of hating him because he occasionally doffs Louisville gear, why don’t we appreciate that he chose UK over UofL, then averaged 10/4/4.5/2.5 while playing with a collection of over-valued recruits with the strangest collection of first names(randolph/ramel/ravi/sheray/lukasz/shagari/preston).

They’re playing a team who has Canadian transfers, and your playing with kids out of your hallway. I’m sure there is a sense of frustration, and chanting USA, USA, is a good natured way to express that. 79 SMH- The celtics PR and community involvement people have specifically said that at times Rondo does his own thing, that they don’t even know he is going to be somewhere. That he doesn’t work through them on this stuff and that he doesn’t contact the media. (The pictures of him teaching algebra look like they were taken with some kid’s flip phone, not a media photographer or team staffer.) As for the events where he works through the team (the connect four stuff), that is 100X more than what a lot of professional players do. (Having worked for an NBA team for 5 years, and worked closely with the Community Relations and Community Involvement people, I can tell you most players can’t be bothered with the things Rondo does. The bigger players (starters) will only do the number of events required of them by the CBA, no more. The middle players (6 through 10) need to be dragged kicking and screaming when they are over the CBA minimum. The end-of-bench players (11-15) typically show up only because its those things that might keep them in the league an extra season, not because they really want to be there.)

All these people complaining about UK/Ticketmaster need to understand the relationship. When you enter into an agreement with Ticketmaster as UK has, and you want to make tickets available online, you are required to use TM as the ticket provider. UK has zero recourse on the fees TM charges and the only other option is to not make them available online and end up with complete chaos trying to distribute 30k tickets out of the box office. Shut up and pay the fee, UK has no ulterior motives, they’re just trying to make it as easy as possible.

129- its the truth. Seven #1s have lost this year. Indiana 3 times. (The teams that lost 3 times as a number one during regular season have not done well in the tournament…often not getting past sweet 16.)
i guess it makes sense…a team with great potential 75% of the team that drops the ball in big situations (IE- losing as #1, losing in tournament, losing when the most pressure is on). Hopefully IU falls to a tricky #8 or #7 seed in the second round. I hate them (and their fans) 10x more than louisville fans at this point

RE Rondo, I posted a comment saying he should “lighten up” in jest on another thread and got attacked. Basically I was commenting on the fact that a 12-YO kid beat him at Connect Four, and he made the kid play him 5 more times so he could beat him and then bragged about it. Now I wasn’t there to hear the tone of what he said – hopefully he was smiling and joking around, but if not, sheesh, Rajon, it was a 12-YO kid. I understand that he has a very competitive personality, but no one is going to think less of him if he loses to a kid – he has nothing to prove. I do admire the fact that he gave a lot of kids gifts and helps out with community projects, etc. Kudos for that.

Matt, I’m bringing a friend to the game tonight, but she’s not a Cats fan (nor MSU fan). Do you think it’s acceptable for her to wear neutral colors? She’s just interested in seeing a game in Rupp, to get the experience. I mean, you don’t wear the home team colors to all the games you go to at the great arenas around the nation do you?

It better not be orange or red. Those aren’t neutral whether we’re playing those teams or not.

Here’s a question. It was repeated many times that UKs games were going to be looked at more closely after Noel’s injury and be more important in the eyes of the committee. Does this cause a win against UK post-injury to be worth less? For example, the loss to UT was right after Noel injury and it was said it had a big impact on UKs chances. Shouldn’t this mean that the win is less beneficial for UT? Same with their win over UF. UF just had another guy go down with injury right before the UT game.

Even with last night’s win, Minnesota has lost 8 of their last 12. Are they really a lock to get in??

They probably handle it because Alabama has been good forever so they aren’t as super hyped as us who have not had anything good to look forward to for football season.

#222 I think white, or maybe gray is acceptable. Maybe something black. Not much else. As a girl, surely she has something that can fit those requirements

228 — Minnesota is a lock. They have too good of an RPI and last night’s win basically assured them a spot.

    233. I agree. Minnesota is in. Last 3 games are favorable for them to win. 9 losses on the season. Wins over Memphis, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, & Michigan State. They should be good to go.

MC- I understand what you are getting at, do other schools commit to ticketmaster, do other fans have to pick up a tab on surcharges or fees. That said, whether they do or not, doesn’t necessarily make practical sense in a business format. Look at the simple time & energy economics of it. UK says to ticketmaster…we have an event with a quick turn-around time and want to limit the financial exposure to our fans…lets make a deal. For the $1.50 that it put-off to the customer, Ticketmaster is now handling all the logistics of a relatively major event. If UK tries to handle it on their own, you need someone on the website design, and then all the things that go into the backend. There is a cost to all those things, especially when the event’s onsale availability is a quick-turnaround. 1) It would cost the school plenty of money to do it themselves. 2) Based on standard ticket surcharges from Ticketmaster/LiveNation, New Era Tickets, Tickets.com, AEG, and other primary ticket vendor sites; i’m guessing ticketmaster wanted to charge at least $5/each and UK negotiated them down to $1.50. 3)Ohis State charges $7 to $15 (to the school), Nebraska charges $10 (to the school), Oklahoma charges 5 to 10, to name a few.

#236) I understand that logistically it may make some sense. I just feel that UK isn’t prestigious enough to make this move yet. I’ll argue that there wouldn’t be a bum-rush as some feel there would be especially if teams like Alabama can somehow survive while filling their larger stadium. If they’re able to allow seating on a first come first serve basis, and make it work, we can do the same. My opinion is that in year 1 of the rebuild that they should prevent any cost out of goodwill. Now if the demand warrants such a thing, then sure use ticketmaster. After a year of having 4500 in attendance though seems tough to quantify, but maybe Stoops and crew will make it happen. My guess is that the stadium will be at half capacity (which is good). However, I’ll assume Mitch knows that it will be packed and this is the most practical move for them to make. We’ll see. Now if they’re doing this as an accounting measure to prepare for the amount of concessions, (which I’m not sure if they have or not at a practice)then sobeit. Otherwise, they’ll still have to market and promote the game the same way.

Also #236, and this is just a question, do you know how many schools in the SEC do this? I can’t find much information. I found a handful of teams that you mentioned, as well as USC, but can’t find much more information. Maybe I’ll get on ticketmaster and type some team names and see what pops up.

238- I’m not entirely sure which teams use ticketmaster. There is a lot of competition out there. Since I work in the ticketing business, I do know that some facilities/venues/teams are partnering with the likes of New Era, Ticketmaster, & tickets.com, UniversityTickets; but doing so in a customer-blind manner. Unless you know what their appearance tendencies look like, its tough to decipher who they might be using as a vendor or software. (IE- All the front-end and fulfillment work is done by the ticketing partner, but in a way that the customer doesn’t see that name.) I know that UK is ticketmaster in Rupp, but I’m not sure how they typically handle football during the regular season. I believe some schools buy directly from Paciolan (ticketing software used by New Era & UniversityTickets). So the school does their own ticket fulfillment, but the front end is not cheap. Others partner with UniversityTickets or one of the others I mentioned, that might ALSO use Paciolan…and in that case, you might not know who the fulfillment vendor is. I don’t know if that makes any sense. (If I had the last 20 years to do over again, I would have created the UniversityTickets concept before they did it at Cornell in ’99. Then I’d be writing this comment from a beach somewhere. Those kids got paaaaaid!)

#240. Thanks for the information. I guess what I’d like to know is whether any schools use first come first serve, or whether the majority use some form of ticketing company. And if so, what percentage of colleges have this sort of charge for a spring game. It may be more common to have a cost than I originally thought.
