The coaching rumor mill keeps on churning! After his name was batted around as a potential candidate for the UK head coaching job, Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease told reporters that he hasn’t heard from the Cats yet, so it’s a non-issue:
“First off, that situation is out of the question right now because I haven’t heard anything. I wouldn’t do that. I’m focused on here. I’ve only been here one year. I’ve made a commitment to be here, especially with my family. Ask me that question later when something happens, I guess. I can’t comment on a ghost story right now.”
Pease, who coached at UK under Guy Morriss from 2001 to 2002, did say that he sees potential for greatness in Lexington:
“They’ve got great people. They’ve got a great program and the facilities are good. They’re committed to winning. And they have won. They won when we were there. They won when Rick Brooks was there.
“You can get good kids there.”
You may remember Pease from his recent feud with former UK QB Jared Lorenzen, whom he coached at UK. When Pease took over as offensive coordinator at Florida, Lorenzen criticized the hire on Twitter, calling Pease “freaking crazy” and prone to leaving the program like he did when Morris left for Baylor. Pease retaliated by threatening to hang 50 on the Cats when they played this season. 38 isn’t 50, but it sounds like Pease still has respect for the Kentucky program and may listen if the Cats come calling.
