I’d tease him about how much this picture reminds me of The 40 Year Old Virgin movie poster… but I’m afraid he’d read it and come find me.
In looking at Kentucky’s team next year, two separate, non-UK sources have highlighted a common guy to have a breakout season. Those of you gifted at reading blog post titles are a step ahead here, but it’s defensive end Za’Darius Smith, who by all accounts is a mountainous manchild of a JUCO pickup.
Smith joins an ever-improving defense that, under Mark Stoops, only plans to get even better. And Smith is one of the big reasons why. Check out what Saturday Down South had to say about the DE:
Za’Darius Smith will make a big impact this fall, and he flashed his ability this spring. Smith and Bud Dupree will create a sexy one-two punch at end.
I’m a little perplexed by Jon Cooper’s use of the word “sexy” there, but hey, if he thinks it’s gonna be good, then I’m happy about it. Personally, I’m excited to have talented ends, because when I play defense on NCAA Football, it’s the position I use most (I only try to get sacks; everything else is up to the computer).
But SDS isn’t the only place praising Za’Darius. SaturdayEdge.com thinks he could be poised for a breakout season as well:
ZaDarius [sic] Smith, the JUCO defensive end from Kentucky’s latest recruiting class, is ready to be a star right away. He is a huge physical specimen with speed and strength. Jadeveon Clowney he is not, but he is an excellent pickup for Kentucky who will play immediately.
I like the “ready to be a star right away” part. That’s exactly the sort of thing this Kentucky defense needs, especially after getting run over (literally) all last year.
Once might be considered an accident, but two different sites claiming that Smith is going to have a breakout season? Well, that’s enough to convince me. They talked me into it. Let the year of the Za’Darius begin.
