The website SportsbyBrooks is reporting that Mitch Barnhart is one of three finalists for the AD job at Kansas and will interview with the school in December. According to the site, Barnhart is considering the move due to a higher salary at the school (I was surprised to read that Barnhart only makes $475,000 a year, while the Kansas AD job paid $4.4 million…that cant be right, can it?), Kansas being his home state and potential issues with John Calipari (which you might remember we have talked a bit about on here over the past few months). Kansas is interested in Barnhart because of his experience with a top basketball program, rebuilding football programs and his universally solid reputation for integrity and honesty.
For those of you that dont know SportsbyBrooks, it is one of the 3-4 biggest national sports blog sites and has had a pretty good record in the past couple of years on stories such as this. Whether there is anything to this one however remains to be seen. The timing would make sense with Lee Todd’s departure, but with an interview not scheduled until December and this story breaking late at night, it would seem that some statement will have to be made…one way or another…in the very near future.
